Lamorne Morris is taking Hollywood by storm. He recently won his first Emmy for Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for his role as the North Dakota state trooper Whitley “Witt” Farr in the television show Fargo. Morris is also starring in the highly anticipated upcoming movie Saturday Night as actor Garrett Morris (no relation).

This acknowledgment has been a long time coming. Morris is finally getting the recognition he deserves for his dynamic acting and ability to switch between drama and comedy so flawlessly. As people go back through his work, they will see his impeccable comedic timing and ability to take over any scene he’s in.
Morris started off his acting career appearing in commercials for companies including Miller Lite, State Farm and Ford, to name a few. He made his on-air debut on BET hosting BET Now and HotWyred and later hosted the Cartoon Network game show BrainRush. Morris would appear in several other small roles before his breakout role as Winston Bishop on the Fox sitcom New Girl in 2011. Although not a character in the pilot, Morris joins the cast in the second episode and soon becomes a fan-favorite character. In fact, in response to his Emmy win, many fans took to Twitter saying this Emmy was a win for his performance in New Girl.

Lamorne Morris Filmography
Game Night (2018)
Game Night follows a group of friends whose regular game night turns high-risk when one of their members gets kidnapped. Morris plays Kevin Sterling, a member of the group and husband to fellow game night member Michelle. While chaos ensues around everyone, Sterling seems to be only concerned with figuring out who his wife slept with while they were on a break.
Valley of the Boom (2019)
Valley of the Boom is a National Geographic miniseries that explores the 1990s events leading up to the Dot-Com bubble burst in Silicon Valley. This show is a unique set-up with being a docudrama with real life interviews scattered in. Morris plays Darrin Morris, a fictional investment banker.
Woke (2020-2022)
The Hulu show Woke follows cartoonist Keef Knight (Morris) after he is racially profiled by several policemen. Due to the trauma, Keef starts seeing the world differently — more specifically, he can now hear inanimate objects talking to him. Woke combines both live action and animated elements to create a unique show that focuses on microaggressions and racism.
New Girl (2011-2018)
The sitcom New Girl follows a group of roommates living in Los Angeles as they face the constant struggle that comes with being an adult. Morris plays the lovable and slightly crazy Winston Bishop, a loyal friend and cat-obsessed member of the group. The first several seasons follow Winston as he tries to get his life together after he returns to Los Angeles from playing basketball in Latvia. After stealing his ex-girlfriend’s cat, Winston begins to unravel and becomes the comedic core of the show.

If you want even more of Morris, he is now co-hosting The Mess Around podcast with New Girl co-star Hannah Simone where they talk about the making of the show and the behind the scenes shenanigans they got into. Morris and Simone’s characters, Winston and Cece, became the unlikely best friend duo in New Girl, where they constantly referred to their escapades as “Winston and Cece mess-arounds.” It’s safe to say that fans were thrilled when the two created this podcast.
