Josh Lucas Calls New Apple TV+ Series, “Palm Royale” The Game of Thrones of Comedy

Palm Royale

Apple TV+ has done it yet again! Palm Royale is one of its newest series set to hit the streaming platform next week and Just N’ Life had a chance to sit down with one its actors, Josh Lucas, to get the inside scoop on what viewers can expect.

Lucas plays Douglas, an air pilot and former pageant judge, who gets caught up in the mix and mystery of his wife’s, Maxine Simmons (Kristen Wiig), desperation of wanting to be a part of the wealthy club, Palm Royale. Though, Douglas comes from a family of wealth in Palm Beach, he remains oblivious and in the dark with Maxine’s secrets as she schemes and lies her way into the club.

“I see Douglas as this lost puppy dog,” He said. “Not very smart Labrador Retriever and he’s causing problems every where he goes,” he explains.

Starring Kristen Wiig and Academy Award winner Laura Dern, Palm Royale is a true underdog story that follows Maxine Simmons (Kristen Wiig) as she sets herself on a journey and mission to break into the high society of Palm Beach. The show takes place in 1969 and sets the tone of a dark comedy and mystery. As Josh Lucas likes to call it, “the Game of Thrones of Comedy.”

“I keep saying this show is the Game of Thrones of Comedy.”

“It’s a kaleidoscope of a world that is this true world and there’s a world of the super wealth in Palm Beach, Florida in the 1960s when there was The Civil Rights Movement,” he continued.

“These rich white people are completely oblivious to what’s happening with the rest of the country. They are having these wild parties trying to out rich each other in a weird way,” he explained.

“It’s a kaleidoscope story that keeps unfolding.”

What to Expect in Palm Royale

As Wiig’s character, Maxine, attempts to cross that risky line between the haves and the have-nots, Palm Royale asks the same question that still baffles society today,

“How much of yourself are you willing to sacrifice to get what someone else has?”
