You have a pumpkin spice chai in your hand, and you’ve officially busted out your fluffy sweater collection. But something’s missing. How can you invite those cozy vibes into your home without books? Before you take a step out the door with that chai, we’ve got a serious problem to fix. Here is a fall fantasy book list that will have you officially ready for fall.
“Throne of Glass”

A kingdom-famed assassin, a sinister game of power, and outlawed magic? Meet Celaena Sardothien, the main character of Sarah J. Maas‘ Throne of Glass series. She gives us everything we need as a sassy assassin—hilarious commentary, clever scheming, and of course, the perfect vibes for a fantasy fall book. Beware: if you pick up the first book, you’re going to have to pick up the rest of the series. It’s that good.
“The Nature of Witches”

Witches, witches, witches. Need I say more? The Nature of Witches follows the story of a powerful witch, Clara. In a world where climate change is causing witches to die from trying to control the weather, this book is the perfect fall read. Moreover, Rachel Griffin wrote in a forbidden romance—say less, because I’m already in!
“Shatter Me”

Can I scream about how much I love this book series? Meet Juliette Ferrars, the girl with the killer touch. After being locked up for her deadly abilities, Juliette is recruited as a weapon by The Reestablishment, the totalitarian regime of her world. There are webs of secrets about Juliette’s past, and there’s a love triangle that will have you rooting for the blonde love interest (shocking, I know). Tahereh Mafi absolutely ate with this series! Check out Shatter Me ASAP.
“Red Queen”

This book is sitting on my shelf because I couldn’t help but buy it as soon as I read the summary. Red Queen is yet another dystopian book on this list, and for good reason. A world divided into supernatural and common folk, plus a thief who finds out she secretly has electrical powers? We’re not done yet. Mare Barrow, our Red thief protagonist, finds herself in an enemies-to-lovers arc with the prince of the kingdom. I’m opening up Victoria Aveyard‘s first chapter right now.
“Into the Heartless Wood”

Last but most certainly not least is the apple of my eye: Into the Heartless Wood. Recommended by my Grimm-loving sister, I couldn’t believe how underrated this book is. Joanna Ruth Meyer takes us along the journey of Owen Merrick, a human boy, and Seren, a tree siren. Of course, who wouldn’t fall in love with the daughter of a wicked forest witch? There’s a war between tree sirens and humans, forbidden love, and all the bits of a dark fairytale that make this book perfect for fall. This is a definite re-read—and easily so!
Are you ready for fall now? Make sure you have pumpkin spice chai refills on hand, some jazz music in the background, and extra fluffy sweaters. You’re going to be flying through these books like it’s no one’s business. Which it isn’t (except ours)! Let us know your favorite cozy fall fantasy rec, N Crowd. Happy reading!
