It’s that time of year again: back-to-school! Whether your kids love it or hate it, it’s time to get back to the grind and focus on setting a healthy routine to help guide your child into the new school year. The following are suggestions to incorporate in prepping your kids for back to school to make their transition back as smooth as possible.
1. Get To Bed Early

Getting shuteye is extremely important for your health and mind. Everyone needs a good night’s sleep to wake up rested the following morning. Training your children to get back into their bedtime routine will help facilitate their transition into “school mode.”
2. Implement Daily Learning Sessions

When kids are on vacation mode, we let them focus on making summer memories instead of practicing what they learned during the school year. But the lack of practicing can leave kids unprepared once school starts. Start incorporating daily learning lessons to refresh their minds. Doing this can help prepare your child for school and lets you know what topics your child might need to brush up on.
3. Allow Them To Chose Their Own School Supplies

Make the back-to-school season fun for your child by including them when it’s time for school supplies shopping. A child may dread that back-to-school is soon, but giving them freedom to express creativity through their choices in fashion, book bags, and supplies can make it an exciting experience for them.
4. If There Is An Open House, Attend With Your Child

Attending an open house or other back-to-school events can be a fantastic way to showcase the school to your child. Have them familiarize themselves with where their classes will be, the lunchroom, and most importantly meeting their homeroom teacher. For the next 9 months or so, your child’s second home will be their teacher’s classroom. Building a professional relationship with a foundation of trust will not only be beneficial for the child but for yourself too.
5. Whenever You’re Out, Encourage Them To Socialize!

All kids are different. Some are talkative, while others are more timid. Children that are shy may have a harder time making friends when they’re in the classroom. During their summer break, be sure to encourage them to socialize with other children when at safe public spaces: playgrounds, libraries, etc. Preparing them to utilize their social skills before school starts can successfully prepare them for the first day of school. Everyone gets the first day of school jitters, but they subsides when you’re able to make friends easily.
Remind your child that going back-to-school can be fun, eventful, and rewarding. Make it an exciting, but realistic experience for them. Doing so will surely have them equipped for the next milestone in their education journey!
