How to Make the Most of a Snow Day

How to Make the Most of a Snow Day

If you’re living somewhere between Texas and New York, you’ve likely had the most snow you’ve had in years. Even if the notion of a snow day doesn’t thrill you like a child with a day off from school, there’s something truly wonderful about a silent, white-blanketed world. If you can’t decide what to do today or if you are a snow-hater, there’s something here for you to make the most of your snow day.

If you work from home all the time, and you’d rather cozy up with hot cocoa, you probably still have to work. This also applies to you if you usually work in an office but now have to work from home because of snow. You can still appreciate the snow around you:

Take breaks to go outside

You most likely don’t work 100 percent of the time of a 9 to 5 anyway — nobody can sit for that long, especially when there’s a winter wonderland outside your window. So when you take your breaks throughout the day, make an effort to go outside and take a walk around your neighborhood. Not only is the fresh air good for you, but if nothing else you’ll get the chance to experience the snow. If you can, put your work-from-home station next to a window.

Add some chocolate or marshmallows to your coffee

Chances are you’re going to drink some coffee on your snow day, especially if you have to work. Make your coffee a mocha (or a coffee hot chocolate), and add some marshmallows. That’s how most kids start their snow days, so why not start your snow day the same way?

Wear your comfiest, coziest pajamas

If you don’t have to be on any Zoom calls or wear professional attire, this is the best time to throw on your most comfortable clothes. It’s not every day that you get to work in your pajamas so take advantage! If you do have to wear professional attire, you should follow the practice of business on-top, party on bottom.

If you have the advantage of a true, responsibility-free snow day, you should definitely take advantage.

Read that book or watch that movie

In your busy, busy life, you may not always get the chance to do what you want. But here’s your chance: Read that book that’s been sitting on your “to-be-read” shelf for months; Binge the latest TV show or movie that you haven’t gotten the chance to watch; or do that craft or activity that you have been looking for the chance to do.

Take a nap

There’s nothing better than taking a nap in the middle of the day — we all know that. It’s just like taking a nap on a rainy day or a sunny beach day. It’s peaceful and calming and really rejuvenating. Snow day naps, on a couch — maybe even in front of the aforementioned TV show or movie, and definitely in front of a snowed-in window — are the definition of rejuvenating. It’s just like when you were a kid and woke up to a snow storm.

Play in the snow

It might seem silly to be an adult and roll around in the snow. Your probably don’t have the same snow suit or mittens you did when you were a kid but playing in the snow — yes, even at your age — gives you the chance to feel nostalgia, pure joy and happiness. So, make a snow angel, throw a snowball, or just take a seat on a soft, but very cold, cushion.

Whether you have to work all day or not, you can still take time to make the most of your snow day.
