On July 9, Disney officially announced that a Devil Wears Prada sequel was in the making, with some of the original 2006 film cast returning!
The original film tells the story of young and aspiring writer Andrea “Andy” Sachs (Anne Hathaway) who, while trying to land a job in journalism, stumbles upon the opportunity to interview for an assistant role for the editor-in-chief of Runway Magazine, Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep). Andy, uninterested in the fashion world, gets hired on the spot. After taking on the task, Andy soon realizes Miranda’s difficult and intimidating nature. As she works to meet a whirlwind of unimaginable demands requested by Miranda, Andy goes through a transformation of self-discovery that leads her to appreciate the fashion world she once dismissed as superficial. But trouble rises when Andy tries to juggle her personal and social life with her new position at Runway.
The film’s ending gave a glimpse into Andy’s future in fashion, and her true passion: journalism. Although Miranda made Andy jump through hoops in the film, the hard-to-please editor praises Andy for her brains and work ethic.

Our Favorites Return
It has since been confirmed that Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci will be returning to the screen to reprise their roles, along with Devil Wears Prada‘s original director, David Frankel, and screenwriter, Aline Brosh McKenna. Devil Wears Prada 2 will center around the lack of print media and publications that lead to the decline of Miranda Priestly’s career. The feared but respected editor-in-chief of Runway must now face-off with Emily Charlton (Emily Blunt), Priestly’s assistant in the original film who is now an executive for a luxury advertising group (and Runway’s top competitor). Hathaway and Tucci’s characters’ roles in the sequels have not yet been disclosed, though we can’t wait to see what’s in store.
The release date for Devil Wears Prada 2 is TBA.
