Gabbriette’s Gothic-Victorian Wedding Dress Redefines Bridal Style

Gabriette and Matty Healy's wedding photoshoot.

Let’s imagine it, champagne glasses clinking, ballroom lighting, and flowery table-top centerpieces. The bride and grooms choice of color scheme is obviously no secret; a modern neutral-toned pallet scattered throughout the venue. While perfectly folded name plates sit on each bow-tied chair awaiting the swarm of guests. We all swoon at that “welcome home” first kiss. A slow-mo yearning as the groom awaits the bride at the end of the aisle… and a black wedding dress?!

Gabriette and Matty Healy’s wedding was nothing of the ordinary. The ceremony located at Castillo del Lago, otherwise known as Madonna’s former L.A. estate, features a black and white theme. Celebrity guests including Alex Consani, Quenlin Blackwell, and Charlie XCX, step in front of the cameras in entirely all black attire. Meanwhile, the bride’s wardrobe consists of multiple wedding dresses designed by non other than Matières Fecales, a Paris-based luxury fashion brand. The brand, which yes, translates to “fecal matter”, is known for dystopian and politically charged collections. Gabriette tells Vogue, “I’ve always loved designers that tell stories through fabric.”

But what exactly is Gabriette’s story? Keep reading to learn more about the models Gothic-inspired wedding. Then how that something old, can be transformed into something new.

Gabbriette & Matières Fecales

Gabriette was first noticed by Charli XCX in a punk rock band named Nasty Cherry in 2018. Lampoon’s Issue 29 dives deeper into the model’s rise to fame: “she mainly made herself known to the general public at the time of the pandemic for her video tutorials of recipes inspired by her mother’s Mexican heritage… [Gabriette] is the image of gothic dark lady, today better identified as ‘Succubus Chic’.”

Many of her wedding day looks were derived from Francis Ford Coppola’s Dracula, a shared love between the model and designers at Matières Fecales. We relate the model’s style to a more alternative, and scary (lol!),  Lana Del Rey. Her main wedding dress according to Vogue, “features white silk taffeta that has been hand pleated to create a bodice with a triple bustle.”

The Black Dress

Gabriette’s nontraditional “something old” features a redesigned black vintage Maison Margiela dress. This fashion statement, which dismantles the stereotypical “white wedding”, is a simple black gown slashed down the back to reveal a train of white tulle. Gabriette has long been bending the rules when it comes to luxury punk, but this modern take on weddings could be the culture shock we all needed, N Crowd.
