A social media influencer by the name of Tara Woodcox has recently gone viral for her life hack. The life hack in question is washing underwear in a coffee maker in a hotel room. Her “cool trick”, as she calls it, is placing the underwear where the coffee grounds would go, turning the coffee machine on so the hot water “brews” the underwear, and using a hair dryer to dry the underwear. The comment section of the TikTok did not hold back when pointing out how the life hack is unsafe and gross.

In the video, Tara says she learned the life hack from her friend who is a flight attendant and has been doing this for years. Her video has sparked a discussion of how hotel rooms are unhygienic. Many people are aware and acknowledge that many hotels products are reused through customers. This includes bedding, chairs, and towels. The only difference is that this instance is captured on camera. It is reasonable to argue that the hotel should diligently clean everything in the room. However, people should not do anything that requires an entire sanitation team. Why wash your underwear in a coffee pot when you can just bring or buy new underwear?
More interestingly, is another video three years before her viral video. The video dates back to April 4, 2023. She claimed she never uses the coffee maker in hotel rooms. She asked her viewers, “does anybody else not use the coffee maker in their hotel rooms because of the gross stuff you don’t know what happened in there?” In light of the older video, people are wondering if she is projecting. The irony of the video has not gone over people’s heads.
Many comments have expressed the need for her to face legal trouble due to the potential sickness the hack can cause. One commenter went as far as calling Tara’s hack as product tampering. There are claims that the hotel is filing a lawsuit againt Tara, but there is no evidence to support that claim.

As of now, Tara continues to make videos of her regular content. She says news outlets have approached her to question her life hack. She is open to questions and is transparent about her hack. Tara is taking the entire situation as a funny online moment without recognizing the health risk she has promoted. People are starting to wonder what they can actually use in a hotel room.
