For fans of dark family dramas, Bad Sisters second season delivers everything you’ve been waiting for— and more! The highly anticipated return of the Garvey family on AppleTV+ has brought both excitement and suspense, just in time for the holidays.

In this thrilling continuation, the Garvey sisters, fiercely loyal to one another since the tragic deaths of their parents, face even more challenges and mysteries after the shocking death of JP (“The Prick”), the abusive husband of Grace Garvey, played by Ann-Marie Duff. But JP’s demise is far from the end of their troubles. A new batch of villains emerges, threatening the sisters’ freedom and safety.
As the story unfolds, we meet Roger (Michael Smiley), the well-meaning neighbor turned co-conspirator, and his scheming sister, Angelica (Fiona Shaw), who is hell-bent on bringing down the Garveys. Meanwhile, Grace’s new husband, Ian (Owen McDonnell), hides a sinister secret that leads to shocking consequences. His dark motives set off a series of events, culminating in Grace’s tragic accidental death, leaving the Garveys fighting to protect their own.

With its mix of ulterior motives, shifting alliances, and jaw-dropping deaths, Bad Sisters season 2 maintains the gripping drama and dark humor fans loved in season 1. Recently, I repped Just N Life as I sat with co-executive producers Dearbhla Walsh and Sharon Horgan, who also plays eldest sister, Eva, to discuss what makes the show so compelling, the addition of Fiona Shaw, and the core theme of family that drives this season.

Why has Bad Sisters resonated so strongly with audiences?
D.W.: “I think people connect to the show because it’s about something everyone can relate to— what you would do for family. It’s about the ties that bind. People resonate with the darkness at the heart of the story, especially those who have experienced abuse or had a family member go through it.”
S.H.: “From a storytelling perspective, it’s about having that villain you love to hate. The Garvey family dynamic is fun, raucous, and full of tension. They fight, they love, but most importantly, they stand by each other no matter what.”

Fiona Shaw steals the show after joining Bad Sisters.
The addition of Fiona Shaw, a legendary actress known for her iconic roles, adds a new layer of intrigue and power to Bad Sisters season 2.
S.H.: “Fiona plays a character we call ‘The Wagon.’ She brought so much fun and energy to the set, and her presence was infectious. She’s a powerhouse, and we loved having her around. She gots loads of layers. We didn’t want an out and out villain. We needed a decoy villain.”
D.W.: “Fiona is a true artist. She insists she’s not like Angelica, and she takes a method approach to her character. You can tell she loves acting and loves the people she’s working with. She truly brings something special to the show.”

One word to describe Bad Sisters season 2?
D.W.: “Two words: Wild. Ride.”
S.H.: “Family. It’s all about family.”
