Demi’s Comeback to Pop

Just as she released her latest single fast, the Grammy-nominated powerhouse Demi Lovato has unveiled her new trackHere All Night.” Which is produced by Zhone (Kylie Minogue, Troye Sivan, Charli XCX). With this release, Lovato cements her return to pop. It’s another synth-heavy track, but it is a playful breakup song. Lovato’s vocals shine throughout the song as they usually do. It’s truly another anthem for the nights that we never want to end.

Not only has she released a new single. She has also announced that her ninth studio album will be called It’s Not That Deep. The project, featuring 11 tracks, arrives October 24 via DLG Recordings/Island Recordings.

“Here All Night” marks a return to the carefree charm that truly defined her earlier eras and helps us find the joy in life’s pleasures. The song cements It’s Not That Deep as one of this year’s defining dance-pop eras, pairing her vocals with thumping production. With the release, Lovato reunited with the director Hannah Lux Davis, for whom she did “Cool for the Summer and “Sorry Not Sorry.” They created a visually stunning video that sees Lovato through the window of her apartment as she lets loose. It’s as if we are watching her from our own balcony or window across the way.

Lovato seems to be having fun with the release. Tweeting that she’s dropping her next documentary and sharing what looks like an exclusive trailer. But the link actually takes fans to pre-order or pre-save the album.

She also released a statement explaining her album and its meaning to her. Variety writes, “This music is a perfect reflection of where I am at today. I had such an incredible time making this album with Zhone, and it is such a freeing experience to let loose and have fun with it. With my past eras, I often wrote cathartic music about heavy topics that I needed to process. When I got back in the studio this time around, those songs just weren’t resonating anymore because I’m not in that place in life. I’m happy I’m in love, and I just want to enjoy life and have fun. I realized it’s not that deep anymore, and that became the ethos for this album. It’s not that deep, is meant for late nights and dance floors, and I can’t wait for you all to dance with me.”

There was also a release party for Here All Night, which was hosted by Trisha Paytas and Oscar Gracey. They welcomed the audience and shared their own personal favorite music videos, which really set the tone for the night. The party revisited some of Demi’s most iconic videos, including “Heart Attack and “Cool for the Summer.” Before the clock finally struck 9:00 PM their time, and the “Here All Night” music video began to play.

What atmosphere did the party have, and what features did it include? Well, Celebmix has this to say, “Guests arrived to an outdoor space outfitted with couches, a photo booth, a gifting suite, and a 20-foot projection screen playing music videos submitted in advance by attendees. They enjoyed a Taco stand, cotton candy and popcorn machines, a churro Sunday truck, a pickle bar (courtesy of Jimmy Johns), an ice cream cake from The Big Chill, Caliwater, and other refreshments. Among those in attendance were Kim Petras, Adéla, Adore Delano, Markell Washington, and Tayshia Adams.”

There really is no bigger recommendation than to add Lovato’s new single to your pop playlist. And there’s no doubt that you should pre-save the album as well. Because we can expect big things from it at this point. It truly feels nostalgic for the old Lovato but also refreshing for this new Lovato that is happy and content.
