The former Disney stars performed hit songs for the first time in years to an excited audience that felt like it was 2010 all over again. The vocals, the chemistry, the overall Camp Rock vibe: this was more than a concert, folks; it was a cultural reset.
When Disney Dreams Became the Soundtrack of a Generation
Before there were the sold-out crowds and viral videos, there was only Lovato and the Jonas Brothers (Nick Jonas, Joe Jonas, and Kevin Jonas) making Disney Channel magic. The Jonas Brothers started their connection with Disney after the popularity of their early hit single “Year 3000.” Around the same time, they also starred in a significant role in working on Demi Lovato’s first album, which led to a friendship growing with Lovato and the brothers. While Lovato knew all three of the Jonas brothers, her on-screen romance with Joe Jonas in Camp Rock fueled fan speculation. This was later confirmed in 2010 when the pair began dating.

Nick Jonas and Lovato were together in 2012 when they were both on press tours. They shared a manager, and soon became friends. By 2016, they were practically inseparable when they were on press tours and interviews together. They had this effortless nature and natural chemistry around them. When Lovato released her album Tell Me You Love Me, fans speculated whether there was more to her relationship.

However, in the following years, their friendship took a drastic and catastrophic turn. Soon after Nick Jonas got engaged, Lovato overdosed, leaving fans and industry insiders shocked. The emotional toll of the situation was heightened by the coincidence of these events. Lovato had to undergo a process of introspection after almost losing her life.

Lovato and Joe Jonas shocked fans when they decided to perform “Wouldn’t Change A Thing” and “This Is Me“. As soon as Lovato’s voice broke out, the audience screamed, and it transported many of us back in time. Lovato had a moment with Nick Jonas himself, a hug under the lights that was a full circle moment for those who grew up watching the two of them form a relationship both on and off screen. The raw hug between the two old friends was both beautiful and significant.
Lovato and the Jonas Brothers let fans in on a very intimate and nostalgic experience. What started out as a childhood memory turned into a lasting legacy of friendship.
