Colman Domingo is stepping into the role of legendary singer Nat King Cole, and fans now have a major reason to celebrate. A new update on the highly anticipated biopic has revealed the film’s official title along with the director leading the project, signaling a significant step forward for the long-awaited production.

Known for his phenomenal work in Sing Sing and Rustin, Colman Domingo will star as the iconic singer. Not only is he acting, but he also co-wrote the script and will produce the movie. The project is expected to be rated as a PG-13 film, giving it a more mainstream appeal.
This film would mark Colman Domingo’s directorial debut. Domingo’s pen will shape the script alongside Vernon Scott, with production led by Cassian Elwes, Charles D King, and William Rosenfeld.
According to Deadline, “Lionsgate has boarded the project for international sales and will launch it ahead of next week’s European Film Market, where it’s likely to be an in-demand pre-sales title.”
Domingo is expected to start filming Unforgettable later this year. The film is named after Cole’s most famous song. Once he wraps press commitments for a packed slate of upcoming projects, he will shift his focus to the next phase of production. Those include Lionsgate’s Michael, the Michael Jackson biopic, as well as Steven Spielberg’s Disclosure Day. He returns to HBO this spring for the highly anticipated third season of Euphoria.
The film has been in the creative process for two years, and Domingo has wanted to release this project for a while, but it has gone quiet since its announcement back in early 2024.

Nathan Adams Cole was a singer, jazz pianist, and actor who rose to mainstream fame with a bunch of hit songs, most notably “Unforgettable.” His 1960 album The Magic of Christmas became the decade’s best-selling Christmas album, solidifying his place as one of the most influential entertainers of his time.
Even at the height of his success, Cole confronted relentless racial discrimination, including a violent attack while performing onstage in Alabama. After facing criticism for appearing before segregated audiences, he took an active stand against injustice by boycotting segregated venues and joined the NAACP as a lifetime member. He also shattered television barriers by hosting The Nat King Cole Show, the first nationally broadcast TV series led by a Black American.
