Multi-talented entertainer Donald Glover announced his return to music (under his stage name Childish Gambino) in a massive way on Monday, bombarding fans with three major announcements.
Preceding these announcements, Childish Gambino’s most recent studio album 3.15.20 was removed from streaming services. We now know that this was to make room for Atavista. On X Glover referred to Atavista as the “finished” version of 3.15.20. In the same post, he also announced that the album would be released on vinyl, along with visuals being released for each song. The first of these visuals, a music video for the song “big foot, little foot” was released alongside the album.

Besides this major update to 3.15.20, now Atavista, Glover’s post also announced the release of an “all new childish gambino album”, which he later revealed was titled Bando Stone in the New World, which is set for a summer release and will soundtrack Glover’s film of the same name, according to Variety. This will be Childish Gambino’s 5th studio album, and his first since the original release of 3.15.20, and apparently his last. This is just one of many times Glover has mentioned ending Childish Gambino. At the 2017 Governors Ball, Gambino exited the stage saying “I’ll see you for the last Gambino album” according to NME, which seems to be contradicted by the existence of a follow-up to Atavista.

To support these two albums, Childish Gambino is embarking on a massive world tour from August 11, 2024 to February 11, 2025, called The New World Tour. The tour begins in the North America in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and hits major markets like New York, LA, and Atlanta, before finishing in Chicago on October 3. After that, Gambino will go to Europe and later Australia and New Zealand. Considering the last time Childish Gambino toured was in 2018-2019 on the This is America Tour and the lingering possibility of the end of Childish Gambino, this new tour will undoubtedly be a cornerstone in live hip-hop tours for the end of 2024.
The internet reacted to this announcement with both support and sadness, with some excited for the future, and others who are upset with the lack of continents Childish Gambino is touring in or the loss of the original version of 3.15.20
