Rapper Cardi B has announced the birth of her fourth child, and first with New England Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs. Although Cardi did post an official announcement, a glam launch party look came onto the grid first. It’s a joyful announcement, but that does not negate the unfortunate controversies surrounding the growing family.

The Timeline
Cardi was in a public 6-year relationship with rapper and former Migos member, Offset. Their marriage produced her first three children, and ended with their second divorce filing last year. Just months later, rumors of Cardi’s romance with Diggs, who has a child from a previous marriage, began to swirl.
The couple hard-launched in February of this year. They had public appearances and trips on Instagram, as well as generous gifts from Diggs. Within the year, pregnancy rumors began, and they confirmed them with lots of joy. It’s been all couple goals with Cardi’s new album and football season in full swing. The couple always cheering each other on from the sidelines.

No Paternity Test Needed
Controversy began when some fans saw what appeared to be an Instagram story from Offset. The post implied that he was the father of the happy couple’s baby. Cardi took to X, in posts that have since been deleted, to condemn the jokes. She said that harassment was constant and made her genuinely fear for her life.
Offset’s lawyers put out a statement that the post was fabricated, saying the rapper had nothing to do with the alleged joke. Taking it a step further, his team stated that Offset wishes nothing but the best for Cardi’s life.
The Mom Bod: Fact or Fiction?
Before an official announcement was made, Cardi referenced giving birth in a glammed-out Instagram post, featuring her outfit for the Cybex NYC launch party. The outfit is glamorous, and you would not expect that she had given birth less than two weeks before, which is often the reaction when she first steps out postpartum.

This can bring up an important question for many young women: is that what I’m supposed to look like after giving birth? The short answer: no! Postpartum is a time of great fluctuation in the human body, and you cannot expect immediate physical recovery from anyone. Sure, Cardi looks great, but to pretend that her body is the standard would be terrible rhetoric to push to new moms.

Instead, we must remember that many celebrities have expensive doctors and stylists. They dedicate lots of time to making women look a certain way to appeal to the public by upholding an unrealistic standard. For the average super-mom, it wouldn’t make sense to dedicate time and money to looking a certain way, especially with a newborn. Instead, we can be happy for one another and embrace the true ideal postpartum body: whatever body gave birth to your baby.
