Sit back, prepare to break some bread and laughs, because Season 5 of The Chosen is coming in hot!

The Chosen, a historical drama about the life of Jesus Christ, has taken the world by storm with skyrocketing popularity. The drama, created by director Dallas Jenkins, has given a modern twist to the biblical story, and the cast has added a refreshing take to each of their characters—it’s no wonder that The Chosen has accumulated such a massive audience! Fans are greatly anticipating the three-part release, which is supposed to shed light on the story of Jesus, played by Jonathan Roumie, and the disciples, as they navigate Holy Week in Jerusalem. Scheduled to release June 15 on Prime Video, Part 1 of The Last Supper is one of the most anticipated installments of the summer season.

In a recent interview with Just N Life, Andrew, played by Noah James, shares profound and heartwarming insight about Season 5 of The Chosen.

Just N Life: With Season 5 being greatly anticipated and expected to take on more of a serious tone, what can fans expect to be different about Andrew this season?

Noah James: Honestly, we don’t shy away from where the story is going and I think that a lot of us, you know, we like to think, man if I was in that situation, if I was there in the days leading up to the crucifixion, I would handle it with grace, I would handle it as well as I possibly could, and Andrew doesn’t necessarily do that. I think it’s a very, very difficult moment in all of the disciples’ lives, and of course, most importantly in Jesus’ life. And so, I think bearing witness to that, trying to support him in any way that you can, the toll is hard to overstate, and we see Andrew a little fall back on the old tendencies.

We see the growth, perhaps, not go as smoothly. We see it kind of stop, then maybe go back, and then try to pull it this way. So, it’s a tumultuous ride this one week, this Holy Week, and Andrew is just hoping to come out the other side okay. But, unfortunately, it’s going to get even harder.

JNL: With that evolution in mind, has playing Andrew impacted you spiritually in any way this season, and if so, how?

NJ: I don’t know if this is quite the right answer to this question, but the thing that comes to me honestly, I hesitate even to talk about it, but it’s been kind of a difficult year for me. I just related really strongly to what Andrew is going through. I think it can be really, really hard when you have a lot of stress on your shoulders. When you have a lot, you know, racing through your mind at night. Not to get into the details—here we are, therapy 101—when you are dealing with stuff that it’s really difficult to sort of navigate or process, it can start to take a toll and you see it really affect you, know yourself, and other aspects of your life.

I was realizing that what was happening with Andrew, that a lot of it was sort of going through as well. So that was interesting in the portrayal of it because I was like “Oh, I don’t really need to go too far sometimes.” It was helpful to know that it doesn’t end there, and that things, you know, do get better, and you just have to keep sort of forging ahead. So, in the moment where I would notice Andrew struggling or that I would notice myself struggling, there’s definitely a little birdie on the shoulder being like “You really can keep going! Things do get better.”

JNL: Andrew’s relationship with Simon-Peter is hilarious, it’s brilliantly done: is there a particular moment or episode that was most memorable about their brotherly bond for you?

NJ: I love Shahar, who plays Simon-Peter, and I feel like we really grasped onto that relationship right away because one of the first things we ever did in the show was us together. We had a few scenes that first week that we worked on the show, where it’s just him and I walking through the marketplace, me running in saying “I’ve just seen the Messiah,” going out fishing, all these moments. So, we sort of developed almost like our place in the show through our relationship with each other in a lot of ways, or I’ll speak for myself: I certainly did! To me I love that we get a check-in with the brothers at least once every season, and sort of see how that’s evolved.

I would say there’s a fun one this season! In the episodes that premiere just in a few days on June 15 on Prime Video, in the second episode, there’s a moment with the two brothers, and it’s kind of a call back to the very first episode of the season. A kind of fun, like a little bit of “we need light-heartedness,” a little bit sometimes in the show, and that was a super fun day. I feel like we gotta come up for air and have fun and laugh and portray that together, and with a small group, so to me, that’s most memorable specifically from this season.

JNL: Speaking of disciples, if you could swap places with one disciple for the day, who would it be and why?

NJ: I think I would swap places with Judas, because I think all of us who aren’t Judas are completely thrown by what happens with him. I think that we all cannot fathom how that came to be. So, to me, I think Andrew probably spends the rest of his life in some ways, wondering how that came to pass, how that could possibly happen, and of course, coming to terms with it in some way. But there’s always that little bit of, there’s never really closure in that way, I don’t think, for something that remarkably brutal. I think in some, almost horrific way, to sort of trade places and see and go what was going on, and where was he when he did that?
