Ariana Grande returned to Studio 8H on October 12 to host Saturday Night Live for a second time with Stevie Nicks as the musical guest. Currently on the press tour for the film adaptation of Wicked, Grande began the night by reminding us of her theater kid roots with a musical monologue featuring spot-on impressions of Britney Spears, Miley Cyrus and Gwen Stefani.
Grande first hosted in 2016, doubling as host and musical guest. After the release of her seventh studio album Eternal Sunshine, Grande was a musical guest in March and was featured in two sketches including a Moulin Rouge parody with Wicked co-star and SNL cast member Bowen Yang.
“I just want to make one thing clear; I am just hosting. I’m not going to make this about me. I’m just going to have fun, take it easy and keep it low-key,” said Grande before being handed a microphone from someone off-screen and bursting into song.
Grande starred in most of the episode’s sketches, so here are some of the best from the night.
Bridesmaid Speech
In the first sketch of the night, four bridesmaids (Grande, Heidi Gardner, Ego Nwodim and Sarah Sherman) perform a song about the bride (Chloe Fineman) cheating on her husband with a man named Domingo (Marcello Hernández) during a night out, hilariously sung to the tune of Sabrina Carpenter‘s “Espresso”.
My Best Friend’s House
Grande portrays a teenager singing about her love for her best friend’s house. The scene takes a turn when we cut to a news segment with a reporter covering the discovery of a notorious serial killer, who happens to be her best friend’s dad.
Charades With Mom
A family game night takes a turn when mom’s (Grande) competitiveness intimidates her son’s (Michael Longfellow) new boyfriend (Yang).
Maybelline
Showing off her brilliant impersonation skills yet again, Grande is Jennifer Coolidge’s (Fineman) reflection in a Maybelline ad parody.
You can watch the full episode now streaming on Peacock.
