Alabama Barker: The TikTok Star Turning Heads and Starting Beef

Kourtney Kardashian’s stepdaughter is stirring up drama online. Alabama Barker, Kardashian’s stepdaughter via marriage to Blink 182 drummer Travis Barker, has infiltrated many TikTok feeds. Six years ago, the 19-year-old sported tattoo chokers and released cutesy tween pop singles. Now, she’s caught in the middle of a black fishing controversy and even worse, beef with Bhad Bhabie and OnlyFans influencers on TikTok.

If you’ve just heard of this beef and are eager for an explanation of who the heck these women are and why they matter, grab some popcorn because I’m going to explain it all.

Setting Up Controversy, Cultural Appropriation and “Modern-Day Blackface”

Barker began taking off a few years ago posting “get ready with me” TikTok livestreams and modelling for brands like Pretty Little Thing. As she aged, Barker’s personal style switched from a slight edge to the “baddie” style popularized by Black women. The aesthetic is marked by lace fronts, colorful wigs, overlined lips, big hoop earrings and body con dresses.

While the line between enjoying the baddie aesthetic and blackfishing can be blurry, Barker is no stranger to its controversy. She’s been accused of blackfishing in the past and sported grills, an accessory popularized by Black rappers in the 90’s.

Some TikTok users find that she isn’t blackfishing or appropriating Black culture, saying that she is just someone who “likes Black guys” and that “seven times out of ten”, white women who are attracted to Black men will embody the “baddie” aesthetic. One user argued that her accent doesn’t mimic AAVE (African American Vernacular English) and that wearing lace fronts and wigs isn’t exclusive to Black women.

On the other hand, one TikTok user claimed Barker is a representation of modern-day “Blackface”. The fact that her friend group consists primarily of Black influencers like Lanazia Greene, Jodie Woods and Malaya Pearl may also influence her aesthetic and the opinion that she is trying to be like them when she isn’t.

Nonetheless, Barker’s history of cultural appropriation doesn’t look good on her, and she hasn’t been doing a very good job of avoiding more controversies. Here’s where things get really spicy.

“I’m Not Looking to Wreck Anyone’s Home”: Beef with Bhad Bhabie

Last month, Barker was accused of being a “homewrecker” by Bhad Bhabie, aged 21, whose real name is Danielle Bregoli. Bregoli rose to fame as the source of the “catch me outside” meme. An unruly teenager, she was sent to Dr.Phil’s behavioral rehabilitation ranch, where she disclosed facing abuse.  After this traumatic experience, she took on a very successful rapping career and established herself as the youngest female rapper to make the Billboard Hot 100 list at just 16 years old.

Like Barker, Bregoli has embraced the baddie aesthetic and is also white. She’s known for laying her edges and has also been accused of cultural appropriation in the past for wearing box braids. This time, though, Bregoli has a brigade of fans defending her against Barker, who Bregoli claimed stole her baby daddy and boyfriend, Le Vaughn.

All of these accusations came to a head just over a week ago when Bregoli asserted on an Instagram live video that Barker slept with Le Vaughn.

“You mighta had him for a moment but I’ll have him for life,” Bregoli also posted on Instagram. “Call him a “bum loser”, but remember he’s my “loser” and that’s why you wanted him in the first place.

Barker responded by saying she did not know Le Vaughn was dating Bregoli and was lying about being single.

“LV deceived me, something I have evidence of, including messages claiming he wasn’t actually LV, that he was single and that he didn’t have an Instagram account. Before pointing fingers at me, I suggest looking at the source,” she said in a now-deleted Instagram story.

Now, she says she isn’t interested in LeVaughn, alleging he was abusive toward her. She asserted she “wasn’t looking to wreck anyone’s home”.

Bregoli too has posted footage of Le Vaughn physically assaulting her but is now back together with him. Fans are extra sympathetic to Bregoli during this feud because she just revealed a cancer diagnosis last November following Ozempic accusations and cyberbullying. Not only is Bregoli a young mother with a cheating, abusive baby daddy, but someone with cancer at the beginning of her life.

It seems the beef between Barker and Bregoli has subsided, but not because of reconciliation. Because Barker is now involved in more beef with other influencers.

Proud to be a Nepo Baby

Yup, that’s right. Barker posted on her TikTok account, “I sure am a nepo baby. A proud one, too.”

What’s the context behind this bold statement? Well, right after the beef with Bhad Bhabie, someone commented on a post from OnlyFans creator Camilla Araujo that Barker should join the “Bop House”, a group of OnlyFans content creators who also post dance and lip-sync videos on TikTok. Araujo responded to the comment, saying she’d decline Barker because she’s a homewrecker.

That’s when Barker got snarky and replied, “I’m going to hold your hand when I say this…babe I would never.”

In response to this reply, Araujo called Barker a nepo baby, hence Barker’s proud response that she’s “proud to be a nepo baby, not an OF [OnlyFans] baby.” Araujo, taking this as a diss to female sex workers, went on a whole escapade pointing out the hypocrisy behind this statement, reminding Alabama that her aunt, Kim Kardashian, had a leaked sex tape. Fans then pointed out that Barker’s biological mother, actress Shanna Moakler, was a Playboy model and has an OnlyFans account herself.

To finally squash the beef, Araujo pulled out screenshots of Barker posting inappropriate sexual photos on her Snapchat story, stating, “for free, pookie?”.

Since then, Barker has been real quiet and elusive as to whether or not she’ll continue the beef. From December 5 until January 5, Barker posted consistent videos of getting ready and flaunting her makeup, but the comments were turned off. Now, they’re back on and the comment section is a battlefield of contrasting opinions.

Some users commented on her most recent video, “I love her idc [I don’t care]” to “they could never make me like you #catchmeoutside”. Barker has certainly made December her messiest era yet and it’s honestly kind of fascinating how one month can change her whole reputation.

So, yeah. There’s last December’s messiest drama explained. It certainly was an eventful way to end 2024 and enter 2025. Maybe Barker will practice some New Year’s resolutions and repair her reputation or maybe she doesn’t care enough and likes the attention. Who knows. What I really want to know is, what do you all think of this drama?
