The pop icon Adele has recently announced a long-term hiatus from music. At a concert in Munich, the singer said “I have 10 shows to do, but after that, I will not see you for an incredibly long time, and I will hold you dear in my heart.” She elaborated, “I have spent the last seven years building a new life for myself and I want to live it now. I want to live my life that I’ve been building and I will miss you terribly.”

The ten shows Adele is referring to is her residency in Las Vegas from October 25 to November 23, which are the final shows of her “Weekends with Adele” residency since November of 2022. The “new life” she referenced may be referring to her engagement to Rich Paul, a sports manager, who she confirmed she was engaged to earlier this year.
She also took the time to reflect on how long she’s been performing after the release of 30, stating, “I’m not the most comfortable performer, I know that, but I am very f—ing good at it. And I have really enjoyed performing for nearly three years now, which is the longest I’ve ever done and probably the longest I will ever do.” She added, “It has been amazing. I just need a rest.”
Thank you for being such a beautiful person! I really love you and your music! Take your rest now ❤️

This is not the first time Adele has disappeared from the public eye, as she typically remains quiet between the release of her studio albums. Her most recent album 30, released in 2021, just a day under six years after her previous album, 2015’s 25. Between those two records, Adele only scarcely made headlines—not to promote new music, but because the public noticed her weight loss. The only glimpse given into that time period was an Instagram post she accompanied with the announcement of 30.

Adele has purposefully stressed the length of her hiatus. However, considering every one of the pop star’s albums has been received with open arms, fans seem ready to let Adele take as much time as she needs to herself and will welcome her back whenever this hiatus ends.
