The official trailer for the Michael Jackson biopic has been released by Universal and Lionsgate, revealing a first look at Colman Domingo and Nia Long as Joe and Katherine Jackson, respectively.
The new clip gives audiences their most detailed look yet at Michael, which stars Jaafar Jackson, the late singer’s nephew, in the lead role. While the earlier teaser presented an upbeat and polished version of Jackson’s life and career, this trailer points to deeper struggles beneath the surface. At the same time, it continues to highlight the King of Pop’s passion for music and his many accomplishments.

The full trailer takes a closer look at Jackson’s parents and the supporting cast, including Kat Graham as Diana Ross. Michael follows Jackson’s rise in the music industry, from his early days with the Jackson 5 to his death at age in 2009.
The biopic has faced several delays, first shifting to an April 18th, 2025, release and later to October 3, 2025. Filmmakers delayed the movie in part to rework the third act, which required rewrites and reshoots. Reports last year suggested the studio might split the film into two parts, but the studio decided to release it as a single movie.
Who Are Nia Long and Colman Domingo?
Best Known for her comedic roles, Long has worked in film and television since the early 1990s. She first earned critical praise for her dramatic performance in Boyz n the Hood before becoming widely recognized for her comedy work, including roles in Big Momma’s House and Are We There Yet? Franchise in the early 2000s. Despite her success in comedy, Long has consistently shown depth as a dramatic actor.
Domingo began his career on Broadway, where he earned his breakout role in The Scottsboro Boys, which brought him a Tony Award. He later took on the role in the show’s West End revival. Domingo also went on to write the book for a Broadway musical based on the life of Donna Summer. His mainstream film roles came later, and he has often been cast as a prominent civil rights figure.

Global Response to the Film
Since Jackson’s death, his life and career have inspired several biopics. However, the upcoming film stands out as one of the most ambitious yet, as it stars Jackson’s nephew, who closely captures both his voice and mannerisms. As a result, fans are eager to see the King of Pop’s story brought to life once again.
Viewers also responded strongly to the casting of Jackson’s parents, with Domingo and Nia Long earning praise for their portrayals of Joe and Katherine. Fans noted that the casting choices add emotional depth to the story and help ground the film in Jackson’s family.
The visuals look absolutely stunning! Jaafar Jackson seems to have captured Michael’s essence perfectly. Can’t wait to see this on the big screen in April. 👑🍿
