Everything We Know About LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight

Batman

It’s been over 10 years since LEGO’s last proper title to feature the Dark Knight, since 2014’s LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham. Fast forward to 2026, and we have Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, which shows us a clear advancement and innovation within LEGO video games.

Developer TT Games studied Rocksteady Studios’ Batman: Arkham Series Trilogy to switch up the usual Lego video game experience that fans are used to, and instead give it a more serious tone mixed in with silly Lego humor that we are used to.

With a whole new LEGO combat system, Legacy of the Dark Knight gives the fans a more authentic feel of Batman’s fighting style with attack chains/combos, stealth takedowns, and the usage of Batman’s powerful gadgets.

Unlike the other Lego Superhero games that have been made in the past, this will be a more detailed hero-focused game and will not just focus on one Batman storyline, but will be a mix of the characters’ movies, TV shows, and even bring some iconic Batman comic book moments to life

Celebrating Batman’s Legacy

When loading up this game for the first time, you probably think you will get your average Lego Batman story where he’s on the hunt for Joker, Two-Face, and Penguin, but you’re completely wrong.

Legacy of the Dark Knight doesn’t just lock in on one iteration of Batman; instead, it relies on multiple versions, from Matt Reeves’ recent 2022 The Batman, going back to Tim Burton’s classic with Michael Keaton, as well as Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy.

The campaign follows Bruce Wayne from the initial tragic moment in Crime Alley to being a legendary vigilante with a huge Bat family. Legacy of The Dark Knight loosely connects a series of set pieces featuring characters from key events in every live-action Batman film.

Starting in the snowy mountains, training that is seen in Batman Begins, before going into some key events of 2022’s The Batman, the game then goes directly through from Batman ‘89 to the height of The Dark Knight Rises.

Also, fan-favorite Terry McGinnis version of Batman, aka Batman Beyond, will make an appearance in the story, which gives a cool nod to the animated series.

Why is it Not Your Average LEGO Game?

The way TT games have tied all Batman media together will be endlessly entertaining for real Batman fans. Unlike previous LEGO games, which often included a bunch of playable characters, Legacy of the Dark Knight keeps the number of characters low, adding one sidekick during each of the storyline missions.

During the tutorial, it will start off as Talia al Ghul, one of Batman’s love interests and a League of Assassins member, and will continue with iconic Batman characters like Jim Gordon, Robin, Batgirl, Nightwing, and Catwoman.

Each character has their unique signature gadgets or skills. For example, Catwoman can send a cat into small spaces to open doors, while Gordon can use a sludge gun to block fire or toxic substances from pipes. These abilities help solve environmental puzzles or find hidden rewards.

Legacy will feature two types of skill trees, something never seen before in a LEGO Superhero game. Players will be able to upgrade their characters’ combat abilities and skills as they move through the story.

One Skill tree focuses on skills common to all characters, including moves like dive bombing, unique takedowns, and unlocking new gadget upgrades. The other skill tree focuses on improving your character’s health and suit armor

This game offers difficulty modes for players to adjust to their playstyle, ranging from standard LEGO experience to limiting you to three lives per level and displaying how many hearts you have left on screen.

Open World Diversity

The open world in Legacy shows the diversity and how much life is present in the game’s version of Gotham, which allows you to explore freely on foot, behind different versions of the Batmobile, or gliding through the skies.

The city looks excellent, demonstrating how much Lego games have improved visually. The nighttime Gotham atmosphere truly reflects Batman’s perspective as he glides between skyscrapers beneath dark clouds.

Driving the Batmobile has a nice arcade feel to it, and what makes it better is that you can drive like a madman through the streets of Gotham. Soaring above Gotham City is the better way to get around if you want a real Dark Knight experience.

Grappling to a point and launching Batman into the air never gets old, and the different mini activities, such as Wayne Tech boxes, to upgrade your abilities, Riddler puzzles to solve, and side missions to respond to.

If the game keeps on delivering on its promise, Legacy of the Dark Knight could become a standout return for the beloved LEGO Batman franchise.
