Hosting Tips and Ideas For A Super Summer!

Three friends enjoying a cheerful summer picnic in a lush green park.

Spring and summer are such fun times to host events for friends. It’s warm, school is out, and the sun is shining! Here are some ideas and tricks to make sure everyone has a good time

Tips

Clear Communication

When planning with a large group, make sure everyone is on the same page. Make sure to message that friend that never reads the group chat privately. Double check that everyone involved is aware of the time, location, and theme of the event.

Have Options

When hosting, make sure there are food and drink and activity options for everyone. People can feel left out if everyone can enjoy something they can’t—and we don’t want that! It may be tedious, but it’s a small change that means a lot to people!

Knowing When to End

Keep an eye out for people’s social batteries. Consider activities that can be done within a certain time or multiple small ones. That way, if someone wants to leave early, they can without missing out.

Decorate With a Theme

Decorations set the mood of an event. It doesn’t have to be much. Background music, a clean space, and nice lighting go a long way! If you can, use what you already have. The decorations don’t have to be expense.

Ideas

Picnics

Picnics are so much fun with friends. Everyone can be assigned a food to bring, or blankets, or anything needed. Also, the picnic can be inside for those that can’t deal with bugs and the heat!

Book Club

For my fellow book lovers, host a book club! You can have your friends read something before hand or you all read together. There are so many books online, making this an affordable option. Pairing a book club with some snacks and drinks is great for a small get together!

Swap Night

This may take more planning, but a swap night is a fun way to relearn your friends. You can swap anything: books, pajamas, drinks, jewelry, and more! I love this idea because it makes sure no one is left out.

Build a Craft

My friends hosted a pottery class for my graduation and I had so much fun! Building a craft like pottery, painting, Legos, candle making and more shows the creativity of all your friends. Depending on where you live, there may be a business near you can go to.

The most important part of hosting is make sure everyone and yourself is having fun. Don’t beat yourself up if it’s not perfect, N Crowd. Your friends will appreciate the effort, not your mistakes.
