Women’s reproductive health has recently been a topic of conversation ever since we decided to cease the silence! Many women all over the world struggle with various reproductive issues while attempting to deal with them on their own. In the past, the topic of female reproductive health was often overlooked. That is, until a select few decided to share their stories and demand a better solution.

Now, not only are the issues receiving more attention, but women are also being more validated for their struggles. As research grows more extensive, patients continue to receive better feedback. Conditions such as uterine fibroids and Polycystic Ovary Syndrome are both topics that have recently been floating around social media.

Question: If you could change one thing about healthcare in 6 months what would it be? My answer: BELIEVE WOMEN! Too often, women’s pain is dismissed or ignored. Believing women when they speak about their experience in their bodies isn’t just empathy—it’s essential to better health outcomes! 🙏🏿 Thank you to @milkeninstitute’s #FutureOfHealth Summit for inviting me for this discussion on women’s health with Dr. Jill Biden, Bertha Coombs, and the American Medical Association! #FibroidAwareness #WomensHealth #YouAreNotAlone #KnowYourBody

Lupita’s Story

Lupita Nyong’o is one of many empowering female celebrities who continues to share the story of her reproductive health struggles, in an attempt to connect with and validate fans. Nyong’o recently shared her experience regarding uterine fibroids, which are muscular tumors that grow in or around the uterus. The actress shared how the pain from the fibroids often affects her daily life, and she decided to advocate for others who manage the condition in silence.

In July 2025, Nyong’o shared a post on Instagram stating, “I’m speaking up about uterine fibroids. This is my story.” She shared a few life-changing events that took place in 2014, including winning an Oscar and discovering 30 uterine fibroids for the first time. More recently, on her page, Nyong’o posted, “So, my birthday wish is a world where no woman has to suffer through fibroids untreated, undertreated, or unheard. To get there, we need research. And research needs funding.”

Women’s Health Advocacy

Throughout her advocacy journey, Nyong’o has publicly shared her story, partnered with the Foundation for Women’s Health, and appeared on Capitol Hill with Yevette D. Clarke to help introduce bills that advance uterine health research. On July 15, 2025, Nyong’o and a crew of female representatives introduced four bills to expand research, increase early detection, and improve education.

Nyong’o shared that her biggest hope is to draw attention to those who are silently struggling with the condition so that research and education can be enhanced. As she continues to partner with the Foundation of Women’s Health, Nyong’o has set a goal to raise $200,000 by March 31, 2026.

At the link in bio, take two minutes and sign the letter asking your US Congressional representatives to close the NIH funding gap for women’s health research in the upcoming 2026 federal budget. Chronic underinvestment exists for a *long* list of women’s health conditions and we deserve so much better. Your voice can help ensure that women’s health is no longer treated as an afterthought, but as a national priority. #WomensHealth #FibroidAwareness

The actress was driven to partner with the foundation by her personal experiences and the lack of research on the condition. Nyong’o not only funded the grant, but she also ended the silence that surrounds the topic of women’s reproductive health.
