Another stunning face has been added to Disney’s princess roster! The recent casting announcement for the live-action Tangled film hit the screens just a few weeks ago. Fans of the original animated film are eager to hear more from the team as production progresses. Here’s some information to tide you over as we wait for more news regarding the film:
The original Tangled film was inspired by the infamous German tale of Rapunzel. The animated feature was created with a family-friendly feel, including lovable characters and catchy tunes. Tangled was released in 2010 and quickly received positive feedback, eventually becoming known as one of Disney‘s most adored films.
On January 7, Disney announced the lead actors of the live-action remake, causing social media to erupt. Fans are ecstatic to know that the vision would be coming to life, but others have some concerns. Because of the original film’s treasured plot, vivid animation, and nearly-perfect characters, viewers believe it may be nearly impossible to recreate it.
When news of the live-action adaptation sparked, fans were worried about the idea of a remake. Many were concerned that the creators of the film were going to ruin the magic of the original animated film. Tainted stipulations quickly surrounded the topic of the film’s cast, music, and writers, that is until the cast list was released.

Disney’s Picks
Rumors began to fly when news of the remake was announced. Fancasts included celebrities like Avan Jogia, Sabrina Carpenter, and Helena Bonham Carter. Disney shut down the rumors with an announcement sharing the live-action lead duo. Our golden-haired princess will be played by Australian actress Teagan Croft, and her witty sidekick, Flynn Ryder, will be played by Milo Manheim.
Croft is most often known for her role in the show Titans and the film True Spirit. Manheim, who is no stranger to Disney films, has recently been in four of Disney’s Zombies films, as well as the Netflix series, School Spirits.
Fans are drooling over the theory that Mandy Moore, who previously voiced Rapunzel, and Zachary Levi, who voiced Flynn Ryder, will be returning to play a role in the film. Though it has not yet been confirmed, fans are holding onto the hope of their return.
The Revamping of a Classic
With an original film as popular as Tangled, the live-action crew has lots to live up to. According to People Magazine, the initial remake announcement was shared in December 2024. Production was later paused in April 2025, then resumed in October, followed by the lead announcements in January 2026.
In 2025, Disney released two live-action remakes of classic animated films. Snow White was released in March, and Lilo & Stitch was later released in May. Both movies included a modernized twist and a brand-new cast. IMDb lists the ratings as 2.2/10 and 6.7/10, with many fans preferring the original films.

After the Tangled remake announcement was shared, viewers worried that the remake would ruin the original storylines like past live-action movies have. Tangled‘s cast, however, caused many fans to alter their opinions, stating that both lead actors were a perfect fit. Excitement continues to arise as production continues, both in fans and the cast.
After finding out about his role, Manheim posted on his Instagram story saying, “Too grateful to put into words. I will do him justice, I promise.” With two incredibly talented actors taking the leads and a director as skilled as Michael Gracey, it appears that Disney has set up the audience to expect a great film.
