Top 5 Healthy Cold Summer Snacks Tastier Than Ice Cream

Frozen Yogurt Bark

A use for frozen yogurt? Sign me up! This delicious, crunchy snack can be made by spreading yogurt on a baking sheet, and covering it with a plethora of tasty toppings (bonus points for fruit). After freezing, break it up into a wonderful icy treat. 

You’ll need:

  • 2 cups Greek yogurt (plain or flavored)
  • 1–2 tbsp honey or maple syrup (optional)
  • Mixed fresh fruit (berries, kiwi, mango, etc.)
  • Optional toppings: granola, shredded coconut, chopped nuts

Instructions:

  1. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Mix yogurt and sweetener in a bowl.
  3. Spread the yogurt onto the sheet, about ½ inch thick.
  4. Add fruit and toppings evenly across the top.
  5. Freeze for 3–4 hours or until firm.
  6. Break into pieces and store in the freezer.

Watermelon with Lime

This one only needs two ingredients, but can create summer memories that last a lifetime. Lime juice gives sweet watermelon a delicious kick. 

You’ll need:

  • Fresh watermelon, cubed or sliced
  • 1–2 limes
  • Optional: Tajín seasoning or chopped mint

Instructions:

  1. Slice or cube your watermelon.
  2. Squeeze fresh lime juice over the top.
  3. Optionally, sprinkle with Tajín or chopped mint for extra flavor.
  4. Chill and serve cold.

Smoothie Bowls

Smoothie bowls are thick like ice cream, and just as customizable. 

You blend frozen fruit into a thick smoothie base, pour it in a bowl, and top it with fresh fruit, seeds, granola, and whatever else you can come up with. 

You’ll need:

  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1 cup frozen berries or mango
  • ½ cup milk or non-dairy milk
  • Optional: nut butter, protein powder

Topping suggestions:

  • Sliced fruit, chia seeds, granola, coconut flakes

Instructions:

  1. Blend frozen fruit and milk until thick and creamy.
  2. Pour into a bowl and smooth the top.
  3. Arrange toppings creatively — lines, spirals, or random piles.
  4. Serve immediately.

Frozen Banana Cream

You’ll need:

  • 2–3 ripe bananas, sliced and frozen

Optional add-ins: vanilla, cocoa powder, nut butter, cinnamon

  1. Freeze banana slices for at least 2 hours.
  2. Blend in a food processor until smooth and fluffy.
  3. Add flavorings and blend again.
  4. Serve right away or freeze for a firmer texture.

You’ll need:

  • ½ cup water, coconut water, or fruit juice
  • Optional: sweetener, citrus juice, or yogurt for layering

Instructions:

  1. Blend all ingredients until smooth.
  2. Pour into popsicle molds.
  3. Add sticks and freeze for 4–6 hours.

Run molds under warm water to release.
