Roses & Roaches in the Bachelor Mansion

A dive into the mansion drama on this season of the Bachelor and a closer look at Carolina Sofia's actions and part in it.

Every year, The Bachelor offers us a window into the mansion of love as the season unfolds and Season 29 has been caked in drama, ironically all centered around one person. This season of The Bachelor is following some incredibly, well-rounded women on their journey to find love with Grant Ellis, but then there’s one woman who had Grant fooled. It’s quite abnormal for this show to have just one person acting as the kingpin in the mansion disputes.

Carolina Sofia is the roach in the bachelor mansion this season. It's quite concernting the lack of accountability surrounding her issues and the drama she's caused. Many women in the house try to confront her, including Rose.

This season of The Bachelor is a unique one because the woman causing all of the drama, Carolina, was not being harsh towards others but was imploding from her own anxiety which caused her to commandeer Grant’s time. Usually, if that happens the contestant just goes home instead of letting it affect everyone else and their time with the Bachelor. Carolina went through the last three episodes spiraling and doubting her relationship with Grant, even aloud to the other women.

While it’s one thing to tell the camera, it’s another to voice her ample doubts to the other women competing for one man’s love. Then, when they gave Carolina reassurance (even those who had yet to have a date with Grant) she kept spiraling instead of removing herself from the anxiety-inducing situation. It’s pretty unheard of for someone to stay if they’re feeling that much anxiety surrounding their relationship and to further it, she kept seeking additional time with Grant to try to obtain the reassurance she thought she needed.

This took time away from several other women at multiple events and she even self-isolated for an entire group date just to get Grant over to check on her. It was the ultimate middle school girl move to get his attention. If he had just made sure she was ok that may have been understandable for the other women on this date, but he ended up spending lots of one-on-one time with Carolina as a result. Some of the other women have even commented it’s become “The Carolina Show”, which she has started to embrace.

It became incredibly disrespectful to the other women who put their lives on pause to come onto the show and see if they might be a good fit for Grant and to see if there is a spark there. They were robbed of their time and had to act as Carolina’s personal group therapists nightly which was exceptionally unfair as they patiently awaited their time with Grant and she kept taking. When the women would try to address it with her – some more gently than others; she would resort to crying or storming off to find Grant, making it unproductive and having the opposite effect. She became the self-acclaimed villain from the point she stomped off up the stairs to go find Grant singing “I guess I’m crazy and evil” to the cameras.

Carolina also betrayed her friend, Rose, who Grant had his eyes on since night one. Rose and Carolina’s friendship bloomed early in the season but quickly ended when Rose told Carolina something in confidence that Carolina then went to talk to Grant about. Even though Rose and Carolina’s confidential chat was a complete misunderstanding over something Grant said, it caused Grant to doubt Rose’s intentions and integrity, which played a huge part in Rose going home. Grant had so many roses in front of him, yet he kept prioritizing the roach.

Carolina originally came into this season charming America from the moment she got out of the limo with her Spanish and endearing smile. She and Grant even had a tearful bonding moment on their first one-on-one date. Their bond shown on the first date made America believe she might make it to the final four. That all came crashing down the moment she started receiving less attention from Grant and the other women had their turn on a first date. It hadn’t even been a couple of days before she let the doubt start clouding her mind. Not to mention when the girls pointed it out, she kept playing the victim, to the point where she was galivanting around embracing her drama queen status.

It finally caught up to her when Grant realized that if Carolina was affecting this many of the other women, she must be problematic. Carolina was sent home in last week’s episode and the other women were glad to see her go. It has got to be ultra frustrating when this experience that is supposed to be centered on love and could be lighthearted and exciting for these women becomes stressful and emotionally taxing.
