The Weeknd Drops Cryptic Clues About New Album and the Future

Canadian pop legend The Weeknd has been one of the most dominant artists of the modern era. In the past decade, he has ruled the charts with the release of After Hours and Dawn FM, both records that spawned chart-topping hits and a successful stadium tour. In an interview with Variety in 2023, the singer confirmed that his new album will be the final part of a trilogy along with his previous two releases. However, with the lingering fear that this is The Weeknd’s last album, fans are still anxious about what this new project and the future holds for The Weeknd.

Over the last few months, as his “After Hours Till Dawn” tour winds down, The Weeknd has been posting cryptic teasers online about what could be his next project. In addition to this, he announced another concert in San Paulo Brazil, with a new mystical visual aesthetic. On September 4, The Weeknd finally revealed the title of his new album, Hurry Up Tomorrow. The title reveal video featured a long message from The Weeknd reflecting on the state of his career so far and hints at where he’s emotionally heading with this new project.

In the past, the Weeknd has also alluded to the idea that whatever follows Dawn FM would be his final project. In a 2023 interview with W Magazine, he stated that, “I still want to kill The Weeknd. And I will. Eventually. I’m definitely trying to shed that skin and be reborn.”

He seems to confirm this is still the plan in the title announcement for Hurry Up Tomorrow. The ending of the video reads, “I still haven’t faced myself, more songs could help, but what do I have left to say? Woe is me in a gilded cage, right? The very thing that made me invincible failed me on the world stage….when today ends, I’ll discover who I am. Hurry Up Tomorrow.”

The biggest of them, simply titled “São Paulo,” features Anitta and has taken off on TikTok. The first of these songs hit streaming services hit last week, but there’s still no further news of the release date of the full album, or any tour in support of it.
