It seems as though we begin our fall celebrations earlier and earlier each year. It’s not hard to understand why, though: Fall means apple-picking, pumpkin spice, changing leaves, sweater weather, and of course, a new set of nails. Gone are the pastels and florals associated with summer. It’s time to fully embrace a darker fall color palette.
With mauves, deep reds and browns being a mainstay the transition from summer to fall has also brought about some more unique nail trends to try this upcoming season. This list has some of the most popular designs and colors so far this year as seen on nail enthusiasts and celebrities alike!
Tortoise Shell

Tortoise shell nails have been a staple in the nail art community over the last few years and despite their intricate look, they’re incredibly easy and fun to do. Whether it’s tortoise French tips or full coverage (or both!) this classic design is perfect for fall.
Aura

A design usually seen in summer and spring, aura nails feature a burst of color diffused from the center of the nail. This look can be achieved using an airbrush tool, blooming gel, or a sponge. To make them look more suitable for fall, try a medium to dark brown or purple base color with a lighter earthy color on top.
Toffee Brown

Hailey Bieber has been at the forefront of many nail trends, solidifying her status as one of the top manicure inspirations on the internet. In her latest set, Bieber shows off her almond-shaped nails with a custom color made up of browns and golds created by her go-to manicurist Zola Ganzorigt. “We officially entered the fall @haileybieber. Can’t tell you exact color because we mixed 5 different colors,” Ganzorigt wrote in the caption. To try this look out for yourself, try experimenting with chocolate and amber jelly polishes.
Gold Accents

Metallics, which tend to be most popular around fall and winter, are a great way to spice up a nude manicure. The warmth of the gold also works as a nice detail in the transition from summer to fall.
Freestyle

Freestyle nails may feature a range of colors, designs, and styles. Experiment with various fall trends, such as tortoise shell and cat eye, and try them all in one set or let your nail technician take the lead.
Dark Red

Tried and true, a deep red is a timeless choice that’ll get you compliments no matter what. Among some of the popular dark red shades are “Spiked with Style” from Essie and “Cozy Up” from Olly and June.
