5 Crafts to Add to Your Summer Art Bucket List

Women crafting together

Although summer is usually a time to get out your swimsuit and head to the beach, for many, the idea of sporting a bikini in 85-plus-degree weather sounds absolutely dreadful. For those not keen on spending the summer in the sun, there is only one answer: crafts. Here are five of the best crafts to try this summer for all the creative thermophobes among us.

1. Crochet

Crocheting has recently begun trending heavily on social media, especially TikTok, with creators showing off all their recent projects like clothes, blankets or even stuffed animals. Though learning to crochet seems to be a daunting process, there are truly an unlimited number of online tutorials and resources to help you get in the groove. Crochet is relatively easy, and anyone can do it. Not only is crocheting fun – and often therapeutic – it’s also extremely useful, and can help you spruce up your style and your home.

2. Wine Glass Painting

If you’re looking to have a relaxing night in with your girls and searching for the perfect activity pairing, look no further: wine glass painting. Save your nice glasses for your favorite bottle, and head to the store to purchase some cheap glasses or flutes. From there, any paint will do, and you and your friends can create custom wine glasses for all your future hangouts!

3. Bikini Boxes

This popular TikTok trend combines art and sunshine in a charming and useful way, allowing for creatives and beach lovers to come together to create adorable, painted boxes to store your swimwear. Pick out any wooden crate or box of your liking and get painting! Though most participants of this trend choose to paint a variety of oceanic scenes, it is truly up to the creator.

4. Dioramas

You might have forgotten about dioramas after elementary school, but they’ve made a come-back! Adult dioramas allow creatives to make a little world of their own, all in the space of a tiny box. Although paint is needed to decorate the outside of the box, truly any item can be placed within. Fake moss, crystals, mini-faerie figures and more can be used to decorate your very own elegant diorama to decorate any space.

5. Candle Making

Any craft store is chock-full of supplies for candle-making, including aromas, waxes and even containers. But, if you’re feeling more thrifty, candles can be formed in any material! Head to your local thrift store and find a cool vintage glassware or vases-from there, you can start making your custom candle with your very own signature scent. This is a cheap and fun way to add some freshness to your home while letting your creativity lead the way.

I just need some experienced candle maker to tell me how to make the top smooth rather than full of ridges. But as I say with all projects that don’t go perfectly (which is all projects), it just ads character 😅. Seriously though, I’m loving this little thrift flip and I want to do it for different holidays and occasions. Here’s how I made it: •I melted down the candle (in a cheap pot I got from the thrift store) •I added several drops (that’s about as specific as I know how to be here 😅) of magnolia, wild orange, and grapefruit essential oils because this candle was unscented •I glued candle wicks to the dish which more or less kept them in place •I poured the melted candle wax into the dish •I added dried flowers to the dish and then added a few more once it had cooled off a bit because the first ones all sunk to the bottom Total cost: $1.75 (not including the essential oils I already had) #thriftflip #thrifting #thriftdiy #candlemaking #thriftedcandle #driedflowers #driedflowerscrafts #diy #candlediy #handmade #thrifty #thriftfinds #homedecor #seasonaldecor
