1992 Premiere: Fast & Furious Cast Reunites in Emotional Tribute to Ray Liotta

Yesterday, the city of Los Angeles came together to celebrate the premiere of the highly anticipated film, 1992. From executive producer Snoop Dogg, 1992 is a tense crime-thriller that follows Mercer (Tyrese Gibson) as he desperately tries to rebuild his life and his relationship with his son (Christopher A’mmanuel) amidst the turbulent 1992 L.A. uprising following the Rodney King verdict.

Across town, another father and son (Ray Liotta and Scott Eastwood) put their own strained relationship to the test as they plot a dangerous heist from the factory where Mercer works. As tensions rise in Los Angeles and chaos erupts, both families reach their boiling points when they collide.

Director-Writer Ariel Vromen expressed his admiration for the project, explaining, “I chose to join the project 1992 because when I read the script, I was struck by its unique approach. It cleverly inserts a heist film into the real-time event of the Rodney King uprising on April 29, 1992. The dynamics of combining these two stories create a compelling thriller. I felt this was an excellent mechanism to tell the story of the uprising, not just as a historical biopic, but as a gripping narrative that highlights the tension and drama of that period.”

Being part of Ray Liotta’s final movie was a huge honor and privilege for me.

It will also be personal for people who lived through the LA uprisings like I did. Memories will come flooding back. If you are too young to remember the riots, it will enlighten you to a monumental time in our history.”

In our recent interview, Gibson shared more personal details about his experiences during the 1992 riots. He revealed that he was living in Watts at the time and witnessed the chaos firsthand. His firsthand perspective adds a layer of authenticity to his performance and the film’s overall narrative.

As the premiere concluded, the cast and crew of 1992 celebrated the film’s success and honored the memory of Ray Liotta. The film is set to hit theaters on August 30th, promising audiences a thrilling and thought-provoking cinematic experience.
