Happy National Skincare Education Day! With summer in full swing, it couldn’t have come at a better time. A general skincare routine is hard enough, but things get even more complicated when we need to start adding in SPF and moisturizing products to combat the summer heat. We’ll walk you through the steps of a good skincare routine for summer that you can follow or take inspiration from!
To Cleanse or Not to Cleanse
Each skin type has different needs, and for dry skin, particularly, excessively washing your face can irritate that delicate skin of yours. Rinsing your face with cold water in the mornings is generally A-Okay if your skin is sensitive. However, you need to make sure you cleanse your face at night to wipe off that sweat and grime from a hard day’s work! For morning and nightly use, a gentle cleanser with salicylic acid is great for prepping the skin for moisturizer after. For normal to dry skin types, try this La Roche Posay facial cleanser. For normal to oily skin types, try out this La Roche facial cleanser!
Hydrate That Skin!
Next up after cleansing, you need a good moisturizer to lock in hydration and prevent further irritation from dry skin. There are gentle, lightweight moisturizers like the Cerave one that’s perfect for daytime use. For your nightly routine, try a thicker, more heavy-duty moisturizer like the Cerave Cream. Even if you have oily skin, you need to be moisturizing too, or else your skin will overcompensate and produce more oil to combat dryness.
As long as your skin isn’t sensitive to this ingredient, adding a Hyaluronic Acid serum or toner can hydrate your thirsty skin even more during the summer, and this will go on before moisturizer! It helps prep your skin for moisturizer and clings onto hydration more than a traditional moisturizer would.
SPF Is Your New BFF
Say it with us now… SPF is our BFF! Skipping out on applying SPF in the mornings will lead to skin damage and texture from the sun’s UV rays. Sunscreen is the only way to protect your skin from the sun, and you especially need to be applying SPF if you struggle with hyperpigmentation. The sun only makes acne scars worse, so a good SPF 30 or higher will protect your face from further damage. This SPF from Elf is broad spectrum and has an invisible tint to it to accommodate all skin colors. Sunscreen is usually the thickest skin care product, so it will be the very last step in your skincare routine!
Once that sunscreen is liberally applied to your face and neck, you’re good to head out the door and enjoy that summer weather with a fully protected and cared-for face!
