ROLE MODEL’s, “Kansas Anymore (The Longest Goodbye),” Is Even More Vulnerable as a Deluxe Album

Kansas Anymore Deluxe Album Review Article

After teasing a delayed release date on Instagram, ROLE MODEL‘s deluxe version of his album Kansas Anymore finally dropped Feb. 14.

Fans have been waiting for this deluxe album since the initial release of Kansas Anymore in July 2024. The deluxe album, Kansas Anymore (The Longest Goodbye),features four additional tracks, totaling the album to 17 songs. Kansas Anymore, a title referencing The Wizard of Oz is accompanied by social media accounts handle @noplaceliketour, keeping the references going.

Friday, Feb. 14 was a big day for music releases… not just for Valentine’s Day.

ROLE MODEL, the stage name for Tucker Pillsbury, released four new songs on Friday, including, “Old Recliners,” “Sally, When The Wine Runs Out,” “Some Protector,” and “The Longest Goodbye.”

Starting on a song with a bit of country twang, “Old Recliners,” is meant for those who are mourning a relationship. The repetition of the line, “Thinking ’bout you, you / In the moment,” throughout the choruses, demonstrates the type of love that our singer can’t quite get over. Calling back to other melancholic breakup songs from the initial album, such as, “Deeply Still in Love,” and, “Slut Era Interlude,” this song fits right in with the themes of the album.

“Sally, When The Wine Runs Out” takes an upbeat turn, appearing to be the most upbeat song off of the whole album. This song is about finally getting over the breakup, but going into a new relationship with all the baggage from the old one. In the chorus, he sings, “Don’t let me think I’m еnough / Then disappear when the wine runs out,” which adds to the well-known fear of dating after a previous relationship has ended.

The next song, “Some Protector,” is exactly what fans expected and wanted from ROLE MODEL. The chorus features stunning high harmonies, and a drum beat ties in the twang from the guitar. His lyrics appear to be in reference to his relationship with, now-ex, Emma Chamberlain. In the final chorus, he sings, “Am I dragging this forever? Am I thinking ’bout September?,” in reference to the pair’s rumored split in September 2023.

Lastly, ROLE MODEL ends this deluxe album with, “The Longest Goodbye.” It is the most ‘country’ song on the album, and in it he discusses his thought processes of finally moving on from his past relationship. In this song, he opens with a list of comparisons about his ex-partner, “You were a brand new, blue jean, picket on the front lawn,” which stands parallel to the initial final song of the album, “Something, Somehow, Someday.” In that song, he opens with a list of comparisons as well, “Well, he’s a loose cannon, foolish man who needs some medication /

She’s a shoe-tied, blue sky, honeymoon vacation.” He ends this song, and subsequently the album, on the line, “And I don’t think I love you anymore / But I don’t think I’ll ever be so sure.”

We’re not sure if he’s over his ex, but we do know that the music he wrote about his past relationship has earned him the #2 spot on Apple Music Top Pop albums, tailing behind only Sabrina Carpenter’s new deluxe. So maybe we can appreciate ROLE MODEL’s broken heart, if it means he consistently produces bangers.
