Pride & Prejudice lovers across social media have been losing their minds in the best way, following the announcement of the 2005 film’s re-release. In honor of the film’s 20th anniversary, Pride & Prejudice, directed by Joe Wright, will be hitting the theaters for your viewing pleasure beginning April 20!
Based off of the classic novel published in 1813 by author Jane Austen, the story of Pride & Prejudice follows Elizabeth “Lizzie” Bennet and Fitzwilliam Darcy’s love story. The original novel tackles theme of society, class, and prejudice, making for rather contemporary themes regarding women’s social roles at the time of publishing.
The 2005 film, starring Keira Knightley as Lizzie Bennet, and Matthew Macfadyen as Mr. Darcy, follows the original plot line of the 1813 novel. The 2005 Pride & Prejudice was a huge success in the film industry; from gorgeous visuals, the whimsical time-period, and portrayals of Austen’s characters, both the novel and film continue to be a favorite to kick back and watch, or read!
Alongside the re-release in theaters, Focus Features is also set to put out new merchandise for the film. In a recent announcement, Focus was revealed to be partnering with Decca Records for a vinyl release of the Academy-Award-nominated soundtrack of Pride & Prejudice, composed by Dario Marianelli and performed by Jean-Yves Thibaudet.
TikTok has especially been a-buzz with news of the film’s re-release in theaters this coming April. Fans have been putting together Elizabeth Bennet inspired outfits and re-visiting their absolute favorite scenes of the 2005 film.

TikTok user seasidespdrvrse showcased a stunning time-period inspired gown, captioning the post with, “and if I show up to a screening of pride and prejudice (2005) like this? then what.” Other Pride & Prejudice fans shared their excitement and wow on socials with their Elizabeth-inspired style.
Others that have taken to socials cannot contain their joy over simply purchasing their tickets, and we’re right there with them! The nationwide re-release extends from April 20 until April 24, so if you’re planning to attend, make sure to book your tickets ahead of time!
