2023’s breakout hip-hop star, Ice Spice has had a shaky 2024. Despite putting out her first solo album and going on her first headline tour, the rapper seems to be constantly the source of controversy. As recently as last month, she was accused of being a homewrecker for being up close and personal with rapper Central Cee while he had a girlfriend. This streak has continued with fellow rapper and tour opener Cleotrapa, who took to social media to share the bad experiences she had touring with Ice.
On September 2, Cleotrapa posted a six-part story on TikTok about the alleged mistreatment by Ice Spice of Cleo on the Y2K tour. Throughout the lengthy videos, Cleotrapa cites a variety of mistreatments by Ice and her team. The first was Cleo’s lack of inclusion on the tour poster. Despite the late notice of her addition to the tour, she claims that Ice never took the time to re-post or share any of Cleo’s material, announcing that she was a new opener for the show. Once the tour began, Cleo described an incident where Ice Spice’s team failed to accommodate her, both financially and in terms of her belongings. Both of which were promised to her by Ice Spice. Cleo goes on to accuse Ice Spice of adding her to the tour as a way to save face after an earlier controversy with Baby Storme
Cleo states in the first part of her story she decided to speak up to remind fans that “no matter what the opportunity is, no one should make you feel less than, or feel like s**t”. When Cleo expressed her frustration to Ice Spice, she started to hold a grudge against Cleo for the rest of the tour.
Ice responded on X stating “I don’t even know you got off the bus and you gon’ send me an essay with an intro, body, and conclusion and you want me to try to analyze this s**t and figure out how I’m wrong when all I did was share my stage with you? When I ain’t even have to do that. You got less than 10,000 listeners and I’m sharing my stage with you and you feel so entitled.” In addition to that, Ice Spice’s manager James Rosemond Jr said on X, “You have to invest in yourself, aka pay expenses if need be for the opportunity. It’s corny. Someone gives you an opportunity and this is the thanks the person gets.”
In the wake of this, Cleo has received a lot of support. In her recap, Cleo gives a shout-out to Ice Spice’s hair stylist for allowing her to stay in her room for the whole tour and for generally being a good friend and fun to be around.
In terms of fan reaction, the comments on Cleo’s TikToks are largely positive, and Ice Spice has lost 504k followers in the following 12 days as reported by Social Blade. Ice Spice has recently announced her Europe and Australia leg of the Y2K Tour, an announcement that has been bombarded with hate from people sympathetic to Cleo. How Ice Spice and her team manage the situation, and how this situation will continue to unfold, remains to be seen, but the prospects of this being the end of the Ice Spice drama in 2024 looks unlikely.
