The residents of Deerfield are back, grappling with the life-altering revelations of the mysterious Morpho machine in season 2 of Apple TV+’s critically-acclaimed comedy, The Big Door Prize. This season promises deeper dives into the characters’ journeys, with Chris O’Dowd (playing Dusty) and Josh Segarra (playing Giorgio) hinting at a dynamic that feels a bit like Laverne & Shirley.
For those unfamiliar, season 1 introduced us to the sleepy town of Deerfield, forever changed by the arrival of a peculiar machine – the Morpho. Promising to reveal one’s true potential, the Morpho dispensed cryptic cards that sent the town into a tailspin. Dusty, a seemingly content school teacher, received a card suggesting a teacher/whistler. Giorgio, the charismatic entrepreneur, discovered a potential for superstardom. Lives were uprooted, relationships questioned, and the comedic chaos ensued.

But season 2 is about more than just the initial shock. In a recent interview, O’Dowd and Segarra revealed a shift in focus. “We’re like Laverne & Shirley really,” O’Dowd explains, “I feel like we bring that kind of energy to the screen.”

Segarra adds, “This second season, you get to see him [Giorgio] in a more true form…. I love it when he tries to speak wisdom into Dusty”
While the first season mined humor from the absurdity of the Morpho’s pronouncements, season 2 promises a more personal touch. We can expect to see Dusty confronting his martial issues, Giorgio exploring his newfound relationship, and the ripple effect these changes have on the entire town.
Speaking of the Morpho itself, the tight-lipped actors wouldn’t reveal much. However, they did both confess that, given the chance, they wouldn’t hesitate to hop on the machine themselves. “I’m curious to know what this machine would tell me,” Segarra muses. “I’m going to do it… I’m going to do it because I’m easily bored” O’Dowd chimes in.
With its charming small-town setting, quirky characters, and a dash of the fantastical, The Big Door Prize season 2 promises to be a delightful blend of humor and heart. So, mark your calendars and get ready to step back into the world of Deerfield, where the biggest question remains: Do you want to discover who you are or your life’s potential by the Morpho machine ?
