Emily is your go-to for all things about plus-sized fashion…
This Monday marked the launch of Chicago Fashion Week (CFW), the first fashion week event the city has ever hosted. Founded and led by Chicago entrepreneur John Leydon, CFW’s launch night gave attendees sneak peeks at upcoming looks from various designers including Alicia Perillo, Alisia Medina, Kaine, Carmen Seminario, Randa Rose , LIMBA GAL and LOVE DOT and Ajovang.Â
The launch event took place at Semicolon Bookstore and Gallery located in the heart of Chicago on Michigan Avenue. As guests enjoyed hors d’oeuvres and champagne, models revealed gorgeous looks ranging from neon orange tulle dresses, dark purple puffy gowns, statement white bows and denim jackets with shoe-laced backs.

Likewise, Chicago’s own fashionistas gathered from all around the city wearing their own creative looks which flaunted everything from a fur hat, cow print pants and a Little Red Riding hood inspired set.
CFW is set to encourage innovation and embrace diversity. Runway looks will showcase global cultures, highlighting fashion tastes from Asian, Latinx and African designers. Seminario will be featured at Runway Latinx on October 19, with Asian designer Kaine showcasing their work this Saturday at the Asian Fashion Show event. On October 17, LIMBA GAL and LOVE DOT will take Chicagoans through the history of Africa’s influence on international fashion in the Threads of Influence: Africa’s Imprint on Global Fashion event, showcasing traditional garments among other styles.Â

These events are only a glimpse into the rich culture CFW will bring this week. For a full schedule of events, follow this link. If you’re interested in free events for this week, check out our article here!
