Yellow Marvel poster showcasing Wolverine in action

Marvel and Insomniac have finally teamed up to give Wolverine the spotlight in his own video game. With the upcoming release of Marvel’s Wolverine this September, fans are eager to see how the legendary X-Men character will be brought to life in a darker and more action-packed story.

The Wolverine project has been under production for over four years now, dating back all the way to its announcement in September 2021. Last month, Insomniac announced the release date of the game, which will be available to play in September 2026.

Since then, the Marvel Universe fans have experienced a mix of emotions. Dedicated fans accessed early game files and leaked footage while it was still in development.

In this game, Wolverine searches for answers about his past and will slice through anybody who decides to be a roadblock. Logan unleashes his infamous Adamantium claws, driving his uncontrollable rage and relentless determination throughout the story.

Gameplay Trailer

PlayStation debuted the trailer during the PlayStation State of Play showcase in September 2025. The gameplay opens with Wolverine lifting an enemy off the ground and tearing straight through his body. The scene then cuts to a cold, intense fight with Omega Red, one of the longtime enemies of the X-Men, and fans have been waiting for him to get his on-screen justice.

The gameplay trailer is a great representation of what fans exactly want: an action-packed game filled with broken bones, gore, and destruction galore. The trailer also shows us the darkness in Wolverine’s world and puts the players right in the middle of the chaos.

With their exceptional work on Marvel’s Spider-Man and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Insomniac Games brings their quick-paced style to Marvel’s Wolverine with a darker twist. While the action maintains the quick pace of Insomniac’s other superhero titles, Wolverine also gets to show off his brutal fighting style.

Wolverine shows off his fighting skills as he jumps off buildings and lands on a moving helicopter.

Everything We Know So Far?

Marvel’s Wolverine as a PlayStation exclusive, and the game is shaping up to be one of the biggest releases of the year alongside other highly anticipated titles like Grand Theft Auto VI. The wait for more information on the title has been a long one for fans ever since the original announcement.

Although the storyline remains mostly unknown, early scenes reveal glimpses of several characters from the X-Men universe, including the Omega-level mutant telepath Jean Grey, who will appear in the game, along with the shape-shifting blue mutant Mystique. Their inclusion hints that the story may dive deeper into Wolverine’s past relationships, rivalries, and his ties to the X-Men team.
