Actor Jim Carrey sent the internet into a frenzy following an appearance at the recent César Awards in Paris.

Accepting the Honorary César Award, The Truman Show star graced the show with his presence on February 26. He continued to make waves with a teary-eyed sentimental speech (in French, no less) when given his award.
In recent videos and photos, rumors swirled that The Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind star was a clone.
The discussion continued until March 1, when drag artist Alexis Stone posted images of Carrey with the caption, “Alexis Stone as Jim Carrey in Paris.”
The first two press photos from the awards show, while the third appears AI-generated or doctored. It is a photo of a Jim Carrey-esque prosthetic mask, with fake teeth in a hotel in Paris.

Stone’s post quickly gained traction, with the likes of Megan Fox and Katy Perry sharing their thoughts into the comments.

Hollywood Denies the Conspiracy
LADBible put the rumors to rest, speaking exclusively with Oscar and BAFTA-winning makeup artist David Malinowski.
His two cents cemented the foolish theories emerging from the weirdest corners of the internet.
“He is absolutely not wearing a mask… that’s 100 percent Jim Carrey, and Jim Carrey is not wearing any prosthetics either… it’s not Alexis claiming to be him and it’s not Jim Carrey in prosthetics looking different.”
Many fans are still in the throes of suspicion, especially after an old interview from Late Show with David Letterman. The March 10, 2008, interview highlights Carrey’s approach to paparazzi and stalking through the use of decoys.
“I call them stalkerazzi… everywhere you go, they’re there… I’ve done this a few times now, and it’s using a decoy… a Jim Carrey double!”
With this clip resurfacing, users are debating if this most recent appearance of The Mask star is a body-double, a clone, or himself. Industry professionals on all sides of the entertainment industry were quick to stop allegations or stories from morphing into conspiracies.
Gregory Caulier, the general delegate of the César Awards, further denied the uncanny claims. Caulier says the actor’s rare appearance at the ceremony was “a historic moment.” In an exclusive with Variety, Caulier explains how the very-real Carrey took almost a year to prepare for the ceremony.
“Jim Carrey’s visit has been planned since this summer. From the outset, he was extremely touched by the Academy’s invitation. Eight months of ongoing, constructive discussions. He worked on his speech in French for months… He came with his partner, his daughter, his grandson, and 12 close friends and family members. His longtime publicist accompanied him. His old friend Michel Gondry, who [worked] with him, was … delighted to see each other again.”
To make things clearer, a close source to Carrey confirmed again that the actor truly did attend the awards ceremony. Per USA Today, a rep for Carrey confirmed that his presence was, in fact, the real thing.
