The End Was Only the Beginning
Rumors quickly spread regarding the continuation of the “Stranger Things” universe. Fans posted images of a timeline that included future shows surrounding Nancy Wheeler, the Creel family, and a second chapter of the original show. Though not every spinoff has been confirmed, at least one has been.
On February 2, Netflix shared a teaser trailer of their upcoming animated spinoff series titled Stranger Things: Tales from ‘85. The show takes place between seasons two and three of the original show. With the same motley crew included, new monsters and battles will take place in a newly animated version of Hawkins.
The spinoff features an entirely new cast of voice actors and has been rumored to include a few new characters as the story unravels. The teaser trailer allows fans to view the unique and creative animation art that will be used to portray the tales of 1985.
Mixed Feelings About the Continuation
Fans are conflicted on how to feel regarding the spinoff, with some stating the finale of “Stranger Things” should’ve been the end. However, others are hopeful that the show will be full of nostalgia, reminding us of the episodes that took place in the earlier seasons. With a team as creative as the Duffer brothers, the story of Hawkins has immense potential to expand. After the finale of season five, fans were left with questions regarding Jamie Campbell Bower’s character, Henry Creel, and Millie Bobby Brown’s character, Eleven. Many hope that future spinoffs will wrap a few things up.
The Duffer Brothers admitted that the end of season five was officially the end of the original “Stranger Things” show. However, they’ve cooked up quite a collection of ideas for the animated spinoff. According to The Hollywood Reporter, producer Shawn Levy stated, “You’re not getting a watered-down continuation of the show you’ve watched and loved. You’re getting a different tone, a different visual style… So it’s not ‘Stranger Things, but animated,’ it’s very much its own tone and style.”
Though the Duffer brothers confirmed that the original show was over, many fans have theories forming for future spin-offs. Will there be more? I guess we’ll have to wait and see. For now, you can expect to see Stranger Things: Tales of ‘85 released on April 23.
