After a long three-year wait, the second and final season of Netflix’s Arcane has finally been released. Ending with an explosive finale, we now know the fate of our beloved League of Legends characters. Since there will not be a season 3, episode 9, “The Dirt Under Your Nails,” leaves several questions that still need answers.
The final season successfully weaves several plots together while leaving a few cliffhangers. Although the storylines are slow-paced, the fights are action-packed and go full-speed. There were a few life-ending battles (like the deaths of Loris (Earl Baylon) and Maddie (Katy Townsend), but what happened to a few League champions is unclear. For example, the true nature of Jinx’s (Ella Purnell) tragic demise, Vi (Hailee Steinfeld) and Caitlyn’s (Katie Leung) happy ending, and where exactly Viktor (Harry Lloyd) and Jayce (Kevin Alejandro) vanish into is left unexplained.
Though the lead characters’ decisions can take you on an emotional rollercoaster (like Isha (Lucy Lowe) sacrificing herself to protect Jinx), the stunning 2D/3D animation makes up for it. Not only that, the loopholes and fan theories keep this show alive.
Since the suspense in the last Arcane episode either left watchers satisfied, furious, or confused, let’s recap a few notable moments.
- Ekko (Reed Shannon) uses his Z-Drive technology to time travel and save Jinx from ending her life, proving his love for her.
- Mel Medarda (Toks Olagundoye) and Caitlyn defeat Ambessa Medarda (Ellen Thomas) after giving her up to the Black Rose witches. This happens after Mel discovers General Ambessa had an affair during her younger years. Even though it’s unclear who Mel’s father is, it’s suggested that it could be someone in the the Black Rose coven. Also, this discovery unveils why Mel gains mystical powers.
- Jinx sacrifices herself to save Vi from a falling tower but fails. Even though she pushes Vi out of the way, Jinx latches onto Warwick (JB Blanc) and falls down the Hexgate with him while a grenade goes off.

- After brainwashing an army of people with Hextech magic, Jayce tries to prevent Viktor from ascending humanity into another dimension. When Viktor has a vision of the mistake he’s going to make, he gives up. Jayce and Viktor then decide to enter an astral plane and disappear together.
What’s Next for the ‘League of Legends’ Series?
Even though the duels between the regions Piltover and Zaun have stopped, fans are anticipating what’s to come next in the LoL universe. And it’s safe to say that the creators are not finished with the show’s lore.
In an interview with Teen Vogue, the series co-creator Christian Linke revealed that new Arcane shows are in development, focusing on the three regions, Noxus, Ionia, and Demacia. So, it seems like we will have to wait and keep a close eye on Riot Games to see how the story continues.
