Do you have plans to visit the Cherry State for a short vacation getaway? Whether traveling with friends, family, or solo, Michigan offers a variety of antique stores, coffee shops, and breweries that will make you feel right at home. Here are a few small businesses you must visit on your next trip to Michigan!
1. Uncharted Grounds in Houghton Lake, MI

This mom-and-daughter duo will greet you with smiles and tasty coffee during your stay in Michigan. The owner, Rachel Kieft, and her daughter Gwen offer a range of flavors for your coffee fix along with several options of food items. Try the iced caramel macchiato and a cinnamon bagel and cream cheese for a tasty pick-me-up. They also have a clean seating area inside the coffee shop, and a patio outside. Just behind the quaint café, you’ll find a beautiful scenic view of Houghton Lake.

2. Wilson Antiques in Traverse City, MI

Traverse City a tourist hot spot during the summer for good reason; the city is known for its annual National Cherry Festival with an air show over Lake Michigan, its yearly carnival, many restaurants and beach accommodations. While you’re there, check out the fantastic emporium of Wilson Antiques. This antique store includes 4 floors of merchandise ranging from home décor, jewelry, artwork, and clothes.

3. Highway Brewing Company in West Branch, MI

In the tiny town of West Branch, MI, you’ll find Highway Brewing Company nestled in the historic district. Inside, you will find a renovated brick building filled with firehouse memorabilia of what stood before. With two floors and an outdoor patio, you can easily find a seat to enjoy their variety of craft beers and IPAs. The food menu consists of appetizers, burgers, and sandwiches — we recommend the Bacon Burger along with their Highway 55 Wheat Ale. You can try them for yourself at 209 W. Houghton Ave, West Branch, MI 48661.

4. Enjoy Michigan in Traverse City, MI

For decades, the “Dogman” has been a notable figure amongst Michiganders. Sightings of the hairy cryptid stem all the way from the early 1800s. Enjoy Michigan pays homage to their state’s creature by selling a range of items that pay tribute to the legendary Dogman. As soon as you enter the small gift shop, you’re greeted by their creepy but cute mascot that sits in front of their window. Along with their fuzzy mascot, you can find similar pieces created by artist Eric Buist. Eric creates artwork not of just The Michigan Dogman, but UFOs, aliens, and other creatures, too. You can buy Buist’s artwork on mugs, sweatshirts, and other attire.
