2024 Paris Olympians are Unboxing Their Gear & We’re Here for it

Despite the literal cardboard beds, this year’s Olympic athletes are spoiled for choice when it comes to their personalized goodies, including Samsung phones. In preparation for this week’s intense competition ceremony, Olympians from Norway and Finland all the way to Mexico are filming sneak peeks at their country’s fashionable gear and Olympic village wear.

New Zealand gave their athletes beautiful crystal taonga necklaces. The spiritual jewelry is a sacred part of New Zealand’s Indigenous-Polynesian Maori population.

If you’re curious about what different Olympic sportswear and merch look like from different nations, stay tuned for some cute fits and insane gifts that’ll leave this year’s competitors heading back home with at least 30 pounds of extra luggage.

U.S.A

Of course, we have to start with the United States, as TikTok is flooded with unpacking videos and trendy content showcasing different athletic wear. Two-time world medalist and three-time NCAA winner Frederick Flips from the men’s gymnastics team posted some fun clips revealing the white windbreakers and matching hoodie and sweats sets for both the women’s and men’s teams.

Seasoned icons Simon BilesJordan ChilesBrody Malone and Suni Lee rocked some comfortable blue and white matching sets while Flips showed off a gray quarter zip. All team members gathered at the end of the video to flaunt their matching Team USA jackets with a thick band of red, black and blue stripes. It was giving Tom Cruise in Top Gun for sure.

The men’s gymnastics team also released a cute photoshoot with typical French items like baguettes, berets and curly mustaches while sporting their competition unitards and onesie bottoms. Every time we see them stick landings in their onesies we can’t help but wonder what it feels like to walk around like a Teletubby.

U.S. Olympic swimming pro Reagan Smith, a Stanford graduate, two-time world champion and NCAA title holder, joked that her monochrome red tracksuit made her look like the infamous Sue Sylvester from Glee. At just 19 years old, Smith snagged three medals at the 2020 Tokyo Games. Now 22, the butterfly and backstroke beast is making her second entrance into the games a fiery one.

Rugby player Ilona Maher also joked about the Sue Sylvester tracksuit, posting multiple TikToks that have gone viral this year, similar to her entrance into the Olympics at the 2020 Tokyo Games. The tracksuit was designed by Ralph Lauren, as was a shiny bomber jacket she tried on too.

Evy Leibfarth of the U.S. canoeing team participated in the popular Roblox dance trend that’s making its way around TikTok. Users copy dance moves from the game Roblox while showing off different outfits. Leibfarth showed us some galaxy-print sets including peachy-purple shorts, a sports bra, a blue tracksuit set and a preppy quarter-zip with shorts perfect for tennis.

She also gave us a cheeky look at the condom packaging in her Olympic goodie bag. Condoms have been distributed at the Olympics since the 1988 Seoul Games in Korea. Hey! Any form of movement that gets you sweating is a good form of exercise…

Germany

German track runner and European junior medalist Alicia Schmidt hauled her laundry pile of Olympic clothes out and gave us a fashion show. We have to admit—the outfits look cozy as hell and we need them in our drawers right now.

Among her loungewear were form-fitting leggings perfect for a morning jog, Adidas track pants, a yellow polo with a black pleated skirt, a bucket hat, TONS of socks and of course, a German flag to wave around proudly.

The Netherlands

Olympic skateboarding made its debut just three years ago at the 2020 Tokyo Games (which took place in 2021 due to COVID). Blending the art of swagger and defying gravity, Olympic skateboarders like Keet Oldenbeuving are the faces of the cool kids at the games.

Sporting her country’s FILA sponsorship, Oldenbeuving gave an inside glance at different Olympic village items including a wooden keychain that gives access to free vending machine drinks, a toiletries “kit” the size of a lunchbox, orange coffee beans and a caricature of her at the 2020 Tokyo Games. She also unboxed the new Samsung flip phone all athletes receive, which is custom-made with Olympic rings on the back.

At just 16 years of age, Oldenbeuving was a flag bearer for the Dutch team at the 2020 Tokyo Games. Here we are getting the Sunday scaries while this badass is balancing on railings in Paris and casually getting a brand-new phone.

The Philippines

Let’s take a short 6,550-mile trip to the Philippines, represented by Olympians like gymnast Aleah Finnegan, who formerly represented America at other world tournaments. Though Finnegan was born in Missouri, her mother was born and raised in the Philippines. Finnegan is also no stranger to competing in Asia, having won a bronze medal at the 2023 Asian Championships for the vault and balance beam.

It seems the Philippines have also collaborated with Adidas, as Finnegan revealed some nice bright blue kicks, black shorts, white hoodies and other merch repping Filipino pride. Finnegan confirmed she also has the traditional Barong dress that will be worn at the opening ceremony.

Canada

Unlike the rest of the Olympic sports, basketball, handball, sailing, surfing and shooting athletes reside in what are called “satellite” villages, a.k.a villages outside of the main one. For this year’s games, these include the French cities of Chateauroux, Lille Metropole and Marseille, where Canadian sailor Sarah Douglas stays.

Though this isolation may seem unfair and lonely, athletes in these villages sleep on regular beds and have air conditioning, while those in the Paris village accommodate for sustainability. Therefore, they have cardboard beds and no air conditioning. This year’s Olympics is said to be one of the hottest yet, so athletes like Douglas aren’t exactly complaining.

In fact, the Pan American gold medalist relished in her cool bedroom while showing off her all-red gear. These included a scarf with “CANADA” embroidered and various tracksuit sets from the Canadian athleisure wear brand Lulu Lemon

Australia

Water polo player and 2020 Tokyo Games finalist Tilly Kearns also flexed her new Samsung phone, along with a stylish Aussie tote bag and suitcase. She and her roommate also revealed the mattresses of their cardboard beds are made of a Styrofoam-like material, which many are saying is giving “scrub daddy”. Other athletes like Britain’s three-time diving medalist Tom Daley tested out the bed’s durability, which surprisingly seems pretty reliable, though not very comfortable.

On the other hand, Iranian-Australian boxer and Commonwealth Games bronze medalist Tina Rahimi and her fellow Olympians styled their country’s dark green tennis dress in various ways, marketing the dress as versatile for all styles. Rahimi styled it with her headscarf and a bucket hat on top.

I mean, gotta make use of all our outfits here because im definitely not wearing this when im back home 😂🇦🇺 #olympian #olympics #paris2024 #olympicclothing @TEchegaray @Caity Parker @risswillpohl @Tylamcdonald2

Turkey

Like Canada, the Turkish flag is red and white. For this reason, so is the country’s Olympic gear. Swimmer Zehra Duru Bilgin unboxed some cute white and red loafers, a crossbody bag and polos with the country’s flag design, a moon and star, on them. The meaning behind the flag’s design pays homage to the Battle of Kosovo.

The inclusion of the Turkish flag in all of the shirts is not only a smart stylistic choice, but definitely one that speaks volumes to the pride of Turkish Olympians.

Brazil

If you’re a fan of Crocs, this one’s for you. Brazil gave its athletes a pair of flip-flops with pins, similar to Jibbitz. The pins ranged from summer items to the Olympics logo. Olympic swimmer Nick Albiero, who is Brazilian-American and was born in the States, also showed off a BEAUTIFUL denim jacket. Embroidered on the back was a toucan with vibrant stitching and an immaculate design. Definitely our favorite look.

St. Lucia

Located in the Caribbean, the small island of St. Lucia may not have any medals on their resume yet, but they do not miss when it comes to Olympic fashion. Track & field runner Michael Joseph unboxed some beautiful jerseys and tees integrating the flag’s gorgeous yellow and sky blue palette. Joseph also showed viewers his track & field unitard, which gives a great contrast to all the red, white and blue in the Olympics.

Mexico

In a twist, Mexico decided to add a sprinkle of Barbie into their Olympic closet, opting for pink polos and t-shirts in their mix of red, white and green attire. Thanks to track & field pro Ceci Tamayo, we got to see these pink sets styled on a baddie too.

Make sure to tune in to the Olympics on NBC or Peacock. France and the U.S. are currently leading with 14 medals, but the games have just begun, so anything can happen!
